Support Worker (Part-Time – 16 Hours per Week)

At Essex Respite & Care Association (ERCA), we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to live an independent, fulfilling life. As a trusted local charity, we provide compassionate, person-centred support to adults across Essex, helping people stay connected to their communities and achieve the things that matter most to them.

We are looking for kind, reliable and enthusiastic Community Support Workers to join our friendly Mid Essex team on a part-time basis (16 hours per week). There is also potential for additional hours as our service continues to grow.

About the Role

As a Community Support Worker, you will provide one-to-one support to adults in their own homes and within the local community. Every day is different, and your support will help people build confidence, maintain independence, improve wellbeing, and enjoy meaningful social connections.

You will be supporting adults with a variety of needs, including:

Dementia
Parkinson’s disease
Acquired brain injuries
Neurodivergence
Mental health conditions

Your encouragement, companionship, and practical support can make a real difference to someone’s day, and their carers.

What You’ll Be Doing

Supporting people to enjoy community activities, sports, crafts and social groups
Providing companionship and sitting services in people’s own homes
Helping with shopping and everyday tasks
Supporting individuals to maintain a clean, safe and habitable home through light household tasks
Food preparation, and cooking.
Accompanying individuals to medical and other appointments
Encouraging independence, confidence and everyday life skills
Providing personalised support that reflects each person’s individual goals and aspirations

Please note: This role does not include personal care or medication administration.

Who We’re Looking For

We welcome applications from people who are:

Passionate about supporting people with their mental health and wellbeing
Positive, respectful and encouraging in their approach
Able to work independently and use their initiative
Adaptable and confident working in different environments
Committed to maintaining confidentiality and professional standards

Previous experience in a support role is welcome but not essential—full training and ongoing support will be provided.

Essential Requirements

Applicants must:

Hold a full UK driving licence
Have access to a vehicle and be willing to travel across Mid and South Essex
Have business-use vehicle insurance
Have the right to work in the UK
Be willing to undergo an Enhanced DBS check
Clear written and spoken english.
Be available to work Monday to Friday (08:00–18:00)
Have occasional weekend availability
