Overview

Kitchen Assistant / Kitchen Porter

We are seeking a dedicated Kitchen Assistant / Porter to join our team. This is a paid position offering an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a busy hospitality environment while supporting the day-to-day operations of our kitchen. The ideal candidate will be organised, proactive, and eager to develop their skills within the culinary and hospitality industry.

Duties

Assist with food preparation under the supervision of the chefs, including chopping vegetables, peeling potatoes, and preparing ingredients.
Operate commercial deep fryers safely and confidently, following kitchen procedures.
Assist with grilling and preparing meat as required.
Support chefs during food service while maintaining a clean and organised workstation.
Help prepare and serve the variety of traditional Bolivian dishes offered by the restaurant. Previous knowledge of Bolivian cuisine is not required, as full training will be provided.
Wash dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment, ensuring high standards of cleanliness and hygiene at all times.
Organise and store stock and ingredients correctly.
Assist with setting up and clearing dining areas before and after service when required.
Dispose of waste appropriately and keep the kitchen free from hazards.
Carry out general kitchen porter duties to ensure smooth daily operations.

Skills & Requirements

Previous experience in a kitchen, restaurant, hotel, or catering environment is desirable but not essential. A positive attitude and willingness to learn are more important.
Ability to use commercial kitchen equipment safely, including deep fryers and professional kitchen knives.
Confidence working with sharp kitchen knives and following safe knife-handling practices.
Good understanding of food hygiene and kitchen safety standards.
Ability to work quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
Strong organisational skills and the ability to keep the kitchen clean and well organised at all times.
A team player with a positive attitude and good communication skills.
Willingness to learn new cooking techniques and become familiar with our traditional Bolivian menu.
Spanish language skills are essential, as communication within the kitchen is primarily in Spanish.
