Full job description

Overview
If you’re looking for a fulfilling, part‑time role that fits comfortably around your lifestyle, this position could be an excellent match. We are seeking candidates with a wide range of experience to act as caring and dependable Schools Transport Passenger Assistants to support the safe and comfortable transportation of school pupils.

This role is perfect for someone who enjoys helping others, staying active in the community, and having a purposeful reason to get out and about. You’ll play an important part in ensuring young or vulnerable passengers feel safe, supported, and at ease during their journeys.

No previous experience is required — full training is provided, and you’ll be joining a friendly, supportive team.

Applications are sought in preparation for the 26/27 academic year, routes commencing in September 2026.

Duties

Assist pupils boarding and alighting from school transport vehicles in a safe and courteous manner
Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all passengers during journeys, adhering to safety protocols at all times
Support pupils with additional needs or mobility difficulties as required
Maintain order on the vehicle, promoting good behaviour and respect among passengers
Report any concerns or incidents to the appropriate authorities promptly
Assist with vehicle checks and cleanliness to ensure a hygienic environment
Communicate effectively with drivers, pupils, and parents as necessary

Requirements

Excellent communication skills and a friendly demeanour
Ability to work flexibly, including early mornings and afternoons aligned with school hours
Basic understanding of health and safety procedures related to passenger transport
Reliable with a responsible attitude towards safeguarding children and young people
Previous experience working with children or in a customer service role is desirable but not mandatory
Must be able to pass relevant background checks and safeguarding procedures, Enhanced DBS

This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with young people and wish to make a positive difference in their daily routines. All roles are paid positions, reflecting the importance of this vital community service.

Pay: £10.18-£12.71 per hour
