Full job description

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Due to retirement of our experienced cook a rare opportunity has arisen at our Sunderland nursery. This is a really lovely job for the right person, working in a busy and friendly environment as a key member of our care team. The primary role will be the safe preparation of fresh nutritious meals from our kitchens which currently have 5 star, Elite status, hygiene rating. Meals are prepared from our carefully created menus which operate on a 3 week rotation.

The role will comply with all Health & Safety and Food Hygiene standards, requires a good working knowledge of food allergies and the flexibility to take account of individual parent/carer/child preferences when necessary. Our menus cover breakfast, mid morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack and tea. Part of the role will involve relieving staff within care rooms so that they may have their 30 minute lunch break. So a love of being around young children is a great advantage.

Hourly rate is £13.20

HOURS: We can be flexible on total number of hours and expect the role will demand between 30 - 37.5 hours a week between 8.00am and 3.30pm weekdays.

Although this is a full time job we would consider a term time contract. The role involves ordering food monitoring and managing supplies using ASDA online nursery supply system liaising with nursery manager and care teams complying with food safety legislation complying with all hygiene legislation.

There are many qualifications available to catering staff. One or more of these would be an advantage to hold current certification.

For example,

Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering (often known as a food hygiene certificate)
Level 2 Certificate in Hospitality and Catering Principles (Food Production and Cooking/Kitchen Services)
Level 3 Award in Supervising Food Safety in Catering.

It is essential that you would have DBS clearance and willing to attain further qualifications to best carry out the job role including food hygiene, health & safety training and paediatric first aid.

MAIN DUTIES:

To prepare, cook and serve all nursery meals.
To wash, dry and clear away all breakfast, lunch and tea items during the day.
To ensure relevant paperwork is kept up to date and attend EHO visitation with 5 star hygiene expectation as outcome.
To complete online orders for groceries with Asda Nursery supply on an as required basis.
To ensure delivery is checked, stored appropriately, labelled and stock rotated.
To operate the nursery laundry ensuring ample supply of clean clothing/blankets/etc
To ensure that any maintenance requests are made in a timely manner and that equipment and consumables are safe for use, advising when replacements required along with preferred option.
To ensure the highest standards of safety, hygiene and cleanliness are maintained at all times in the food preparation areas by the creation of relevant risk assessments and the timely completion of daily/weekly/monthly tasks and records.
To ensure that all instructions listed on the Kitchen Checklist are adhered to.
To carry out risk assessments on Health and Safety within the kitchen and food preparation area every 6 months and report to the Nursery Manager once completed.
To protect the health, safety and welfare of all children at all times within the Nursery and be familiar with the nursery’s fire alarm system all emergency escape routes and follow up actions.
