Full job description

Job Overview

The Mental Health Outreach Worker will provide specialist mental health support to individuals living in Amicus Trust Limited accommodation, helping to identify needs, promote mental wellbeing and support residents to access appropriate services. The postholder will undertake baseline and needs-led mental health assessments, contribute to the development of support packages, and deliver individual or group sessions where appropriate.

The role will work closely with staff teams to strengthen their confidence, knowledge and practice when supporting individuals with mental disorders, while also liaising with external mental health providers and other relevant services.

The postholder will maintain accurate records, monitor outcomes, support consistent practice across services and actively promote a positive, person-centred approach that aligns with Amicus Trust’s values, policies and commitment to safe, effective support.

About us

Amicus Trust are here for individuals between the ages of 18 – 65 who are rough sleeping, considered homeless or at risk of homelessness. Individuals may or may not have a range of complex needs including mental health issues, ex-offending, alcohol dependency or substance misuse. We provide supported housing alongside mental health support, structured supporting meetings and life-skills development.

What we offer:

Salary; £31,498.33 per annum.
Hours; full-time 37, per week Monday to Friday
Holiday; 25 days plus 8 bank holidays

What you will do in the role of Housing Support Officer:

Undertake mental health assessments of individuals, both as baseline assessments and in response to specific needs.
Contribute to the development of support packages for individuals assessed as having a mental disorder.
Run individual and group sessions, where appropriate, to address assessed needs.
Signpost individuals to relevant services.
Liaise with other providers in the mental health field.
Work with staff members to ensure they are delivering the best possible support for individuals with mental disorders.
Attend meetings concerning mental health developments in the local area.
Attend individual meetings regarding clients, as and when appropriate.
Actively promote mental wellbeing at all times and in a positive manner.
Ensure services are delivered in line with relevant legislation and guidance.

What you will need:

Experience working with vulnerable people, including those experiencing homelessness or complex needs.
Knowledge of the links between homelessness and mental ill health
Strong communication skills, with the ability to build professional relationships while maintaining boundaries.
Degree level or higher qualification / professional qualification in a mental health-related area
Ability to maintain strong boundaries and confidentiality
Knowledge understanding of safeguarding practices
Ability to manage a caseload, prioritise workload and work effectively under pressure.
Good written skills and IT competence for accurate record keeping and report writing.
A calm, non-judgemental approach with a strong understanding of safeguarding and equality.
Experience of working with addiction
A full driving licence (maximum 3 penalty points) and access to a vehicle to attend different locations.

Location: This role is based in the Cambridgeshire area, with locations including Biggleswade, St Neots, Sandy and Huntingdon.
