Overview
We are seeking a proactive and dedicated Deputy Manager to support the daily operations of our organisation. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in assisting with management duties, ensuring smooth service delivery, and fostering a positive environment. This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with a passion for leadership and teaching to develop their skills within a dynamic team. The Deputy Manager will be responsible for supporting senior management, supervising staff, and contributing to organisational growth.

Responsibilities

Assist the Manager in overseeing daily operations to ensure efficiency and quality standards are met
Support staff in delivering exceptional service and maintaining organisational policies
Contribute to staff training programmes, with an emphasis on teaching and mentoring team members
Help coordinate schedules, manage resources, and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations
Step into managerial duties in the absence of the Manager, making decisions to uphold service standards
Foster a positive working environment that encourages teamwork and professional development
Engage with clients or stakeholders as required, representing the organisation professionally

Leadership and Management Responsibilities

Support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day management of the children’s home.
Lead shifts and ensure the safe and effective operation of the home.
Supervise and support staff members to maintain high standards of care.
Support staff development through mentoring, guidance and supervision.
Ensure all staff follow safeguarding procedures and organisational policies.
Promote a positive, supportive and professional team culture.

Safeguarding and Child Protection

Ensure safeguarding policies and procedures are followed at all times.
Respond to safeguarding concerns promptly and report to the Registered Manager.
Promote a safe environment that protects children from harm or exploitation.
Ensure incidents are managed appropriately and recorded accurately.

Care and Support Responsibilities

Ensure children receive high-quality care tailored to their individual needs.
Support children with emotional, behavioural and developmental needs.
Promote positive relationships between staff and children.
Ensure care plans, risk assessments and behaviour support plans are followed.

Staff Development and Supervision

Provide supervision and guidance to residential support staff.
Support staff training and professional development.
Assist with staff recruitment and safer recruitment processes.
Support performance management where necessary.

Recording and Reporting

Ensure accurate records are maintained including daily logs and incident reports.
Support the completion of reports for professionals and local authorities.
Ensure documentation meets regulatory requirements and organisational standards.

Multi‑Agency Working

Work collaboratively with social workers, education providers, therapists and other professionals.
Attend LAC reviews, placement planning meetings and professional meetings.
Ensure effective communication with all agencies involved in the care of the children.

Qualifications and Experience

Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (essential).
Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (desirable or willingness to work towards).
Experience working with children and young people in residential care.
Strong understanding of safeguarding and children’s home regulations.
