Hidden Harm Prevention Worker

Key Focus

The Hidden Harm Prevention worker will:

Will be a key role in a Multi-agency approach to strengthen the Hidden harm response and wider prevention in social care casework.
Facilitate rapid referral pathways into the commissioned drug and alcohol support service (Both Achieve and Early Break).
Strengthen multi‑agency information sharing and partnership working.
Contribute to training and upskilling of the wider children and family workforce.

The post will be employed by Early Break Young People’s and Family Service but will be embedded within the Children’s Social Care Front Door arrangements.

Employment within Early Break assures access to clinical supervision, specialist tools, and alignment with treatment pathways as a focus.

Key Deliverables

Provide real-time specialist advice and consultation to Front Door social workers and family support practitioners.
Support the early identification of parental substance use and associated risks to children and young people.
Undertake joint visits with social care colleagues to assess parental capacity, motivation levels, substance use and associated risk.
Deliver psycho -social interventions to reduce parental substance and provide access to wider treatment and recovery services
Provide brief interventions and short-term, focused casework with parents where appropriate to reduce substance use, improve emotional health and wellbeing, parenting and relationships.
Facilitate rapid and effective referral pathways into commissioned drug and alcohol treatment services, including Achieve and Early Break.
Support Social Care colleagues to further understand the impact of parental substance use and hidden harm on children and family functioning
Strengthen multi-agency information sharing, communication and partnership working.
Contribute to the broad development of effective responses to Hidden Harm within the Children’s Social Care Front Door.
Provide advice and guidance to Multi agency professionals regarding appropriate safeguarding responses and onward referrals.
Contribute to training, awareness-raising and workforce development to increase confidence and knowledge in identifying and responding to parental substance use.
Promote a strengths-based, trauma-informed and child-centred approach when working with parents and professionals.
Work collaboratively with partner agencies to ensure children and families receive timely and appropriate support.
Dual record and maintain accurate and timely case records, administration and reporting in accordance with service requirements and agreed deadlines.
Share information appropriately with colleagues and partner agencies in line with relevant information-sharing agreements.
Be a reflective practitioner, using supervision and professional development to continually develop practice and improve outcomes for families.
Maintain and develop knowledge of issues affecting parents, children and young people, and actively engage in relevant training and learning opportunities
Contribute to the Early Break wider development and entrepreneurial activity, including appropriate social media activity.
Adhere to all relevant Early Break policies and procedures and promote high standards of professional practice.
