Full job description

SUMMARY

September 2026 Autumn Term start date. This position is offered on a term-time basis, meaning that working weeks align with the school calendar dates. The role is part-time and requires attendance for four days each week. Working hours are between 08:00 and 16:00, for the successful candidate. A flexible and caring approach is essential, with the ability to work with children aged 8 months to pre-school across a range of nursery rooms, adapting to their individual learning, care, and developmental needs. We’re looking for someone who is flexible and happy to adapt to staff rotas to help meet changing occupancy levels within the times shown above.

An Early Years Practitioner is responsible for supporting the learning and development of young children within a safe and nurturing environment. The role involves planning and delivering engaging activities tailored to the needs of each child, observing and assessing progress, and working closely with parents and carers to ensure the well-being of the children in their care. Practitioners must adhere to safeguarding policies and promote positive behaviour, while encouraging the development of social, emotional, and cognitive skills. Effective communication, teamwork, and a thorough understanding of early years frameworks are essential elements of this position.

KEY POINTS

Ensuring the health and safety of children within a nursery environment is a fundamental responsibility for early years practitioners. The practitioner must consistently implement policies and procedures that safeguard the wellbeing of all children in their care.

Health Promotion

Practitioners are required to actively promote healthy practices throughout the nursery. This includes encouraging good hygiene, supporting healthy eating habits, and ensuring children are physically active. Maintaining a clean and safe environment further contributes to the overall health of the children.

Safeguarding

Safeguarding children within a nursery environment is of utmost importance. Practitioners are responsible for protecting children from harm and ensuring their welfare at all times. This includes being vigilant for any signs of abuse or neglect, following appropriate procedures, and maintaining a safe and secure environment.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

To be considered for this role, you must hold an approved Level 3 Early Years qualification or above.

Paediatric First Aid is preferred for this position.

Qualification Verification

All applicants should be aware that verification of your qualification will be checked. It is essential that you hold an approved Level 3 qualification or its equivalent, such as the NNEB or BTEC National Diploma Certificate in Childcare, as stipulated in the job requirements. Ensuring that qualifications are properly verified helps maintain high standards of professionalism and safeguarding within the nursery setting.

ESSENTIAL

This Job offer is subject to Three references (one MUST be from current or recent employer in early years) and a requirement for the applicant to provide a current or renewed Enhanced DBS check at your own cost.
