About the Home

We are opening a new specialist children’s home supporting young people aged 5–17 with mild to moderate learning disabilities, Autism, ADHD and communication needs. We provide structured, nurturing and low-arousal care using Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), relational practice and consistent routines. We hope to open the home towards the end of the year.

Purpose of the Role

We are looking for a compassionate and experienced Team Leader to lead shifts, support staff and ensure high-quality care is provided. You will help create a safe, nurturing environment and support children to develop independence, emotional regulation and positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Lead shifts and ensure safe and effective team working.
Provide direct care and support to children.
Support personal care, daily routines and independence.
Follow individual care plans and Behaviour Support Plans.
Safeguard children and report concerns appropriately.
Promote PBS, low-arousal and de-escalation approaches.
Support and mentor staff members.
Delegate tasks and ensure effective handovers.
Assist the Registered Manager with daily and weekly tasks.
Support care plans, risk assessments and Behaviour Support Plans.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records.
Monitor children’s progress, behaviours and outcomes.
Work with families, social workers, schools, therapists and other professionals.
Support educational, recreational and community activities.
Maintain a safe, clean and nurturing home environment.
Promote good health and safety practices.

Essential Requirements

Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare or equivalent.
Experience working with children with learning disabilities or additional needs.
Experience leading shifts or supporting a staff team.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage challenging behaviour calmly and professionally.
Understanding of safeguarding and children’s care.
Knowledge of care planning and risk assessments.
Understanding of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and de-escalation.
Ability to supervise, support and develop staff.
Ability to work with external professionals.
Full UK driving licence with business insurance.
Ability to remain calm and make decisions under pressure.
Commitment to ongoing professional development.

Desirable

Experience in children’s residential care.
Knowledge of Autism, ADHD and non-verbal communication.
Knowledge of Makaton or PECS.
Experience with low-arousal and trauma-informed approaches.
Previous leadership or supervisory experience.
Knowledge of Ofsted requirements and Children’s Homes Regulations 2015.
Experience with electronic care recording systems.
Experience working with families and external professionals.

Working Requirements

Flexible working required.
Includes sleep-in and waking night duties.
Evening, weekend and bank holiday work may be required.
Commitment to ongoing training and professional development.

Training & Development

We provide ongoing training, regular 1:1 supervision, mentoring and opportunities to gain recognised qualifications. Staff will also have opportunities to develop specialist skills in areas such as Autism and Positive Behaviour Support.
