This is an incredibly exciting time to join the DDaT team at DCMS, as we strive to collaborate across the department to deliver secure, user-centred services that drive smarter working, innovation and efficiency. We are transforming DCMS to meet the demands of an agile, delivery-focused department leading on some of the highest priority work for the governments agenda to drive growth, enrich lives and level-up society.

Our plans include critical investment in our corporate systems, ensuring they are fit for purpose and reducing the manual input required. Equally, there is ongoing development of the way the department delivers its policy outcomes via digital and data services, using AI where needed to maximise the value these can bring to users in the department or throughout the society we serve.

You will join the newly-established Enabling team, which provides centralised coordination to support DDaT to achieve its objectives. We are a small team that delivers activity across finance, commercial, strategy, capability, comms, workforce, risk, governance and private office functions.

Job description

As a Business Support Officer, you will work collaboratively with colleagues within the Enabling team to deliver highly-effective business support activities to the wider directorate. This is a vital role to ensure the smooth running of DDaT, supporting the delivery of the DDaT strategy.

You will have the opportunity to contribute to key strategic activity such as directorate governance, business planning and the delivery of the commercial strategy. You will liaise with the senior leadership team (SLT), colleagues across DDaT, HR, Finance, Commercial and with suppliers.

Responsibilities include:

Finance and contracts: processing purchase orders and invoices, supporting budget forecasting and contract management
Workforce: supporting workforce forecasting, reporting and recruitment activity
Administration: coordinating commissions and reporting, maintaining records and managing correspondence

DDaT is a busy Directorate, and you will need to be agile and adaptable in the work you deliver, willing to contribute as required to a small central team within the Directorate.

Person specification

The ideal candidate would have the following key skills and experience, please note that desirable skills will only be used in the event of tied candidates:

Essential requirements:

Demonstrable experience of purchase-to-pay processes and of supporting budget management
Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and coordinate multiple tasks to tight deadlines
Experience of building and maintaining relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including senior stakeholders
Effective verbal and written communication skills

Desirable skills:

Experience of supporting contract management activity
Experience of workforce forecasting
