Care Home Team Lead

Location: Bedwardine House, Worcester, WR2 5SU

About Us

Bedwardine House is a residential care home in Worcester, providing care and support for elderly residents, including those living with dementia.

Our aim is to create a safe, respectful and homely environment where residents feel well cared for, and where staff feel supported, valued and able to do their jobs properly.

The Role

We are looking for a strong and proactive Care Home Team Lead to support the day-to-day running of the shift and help ensure high standards of care are maintained.

This is a hands-on care role. You will form part of the care team on shift, while also taking additional responsibility for leading staff, coordinating care, administering medication, supporting documentation and acting as a key point of contact during the shift.

This role is ideal for someone with strong care experience, good medication knowledge, sound judgement and a calm, confident approach to supporting and guiding a team.

Key Responsibilities

Medication Management: Administer, book in and order medication safely and accurately, following the home’s procedures.

Care Planning & Documentation: Support with creating, reviewing and updating care plans, daily records and risk assessments, including continence, falls and moving and handling assessments.

Shift Leadership: Help lead the shift, provide direction to care staff, delegate tasks appropriately and ensure residents’ needs are met throughout the day or night.

Handovers: Lead or support effective handovers, ensuring important information is clearly communicated and followed up.

Resident Care: Deliver and oversee personal and emotional care, promoting dignity, choice, independence and person-centred support.

Staff Support: Supervise, guide and support carers on shift, offering hands-on assistance and helping maintain good standards of care.

Referrals & Liaison: Communicate with GPs, district nurses, pharmacists, families and other professionals where required, including supporting referrals and follow-ups.

Challenging Behaviour: Respond calmly and appropriately to behavioural challenges, using de-escalation and person-centred approaches.

Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records and ensure company procedures and CQC standards are followed.

Continuity of Care: Work closely with management and colleagues to ensure residents receive safe, consistent and well-coordinated care.

About You

We are looking for someone who has:

Experience in a senior carer, team leader, head carer or similar role within a residential care setting
Strong care experience and confidence working on the floor as part of the care team
Good knowledge of medication procedures and care documentation
NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care, with Level 3 preferred or willingness to work towards it
Confidence in leading a team and supporting staff on shift
Good communication skills when dealing with residents, families and healthcare professionals
A calm, organised and practical approach when working under pressure
A genuine passion for supporting older adults and residents living with dementia

Working Hours

12-hour shifts
Day and night shifts available, depending on the position
Full-time and part-time positions considered
Rotational shifts, including some weekends
