As part of our continued growth, we are seeking an experienced M&E Project Manager to take ownership of projects once contracts have been secured, managing the full project lifecycle from mobilisation through to completion and final account agreement.
Purpose of the Role
The M&E Project Manager will be responsible for leading multiple mechanical and electrical projects from mobilisation through to practical completion, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
The successful candidate will combine strong technical knowledge with commercial awareness, subcontractor management expertise and exceptional client relationship skills. They will be responsible for maintaining full project control through Joblogic whilst ensuring excellent customer satisfaction and profitable project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Project Delivery
- Take ownership of projects immediately following contract award.
- Lead project mobilisation activities including procurement, planning, resource allocation and programme development.
- Manage projects from inception through to practical completion and handover.
- Ensure all works are delivered in accordance with contract requirements, specifications and agreed programmes.
- Monitor project progress and proactively manage risks, delays and variations.
- Chair project meetings with clients, subcontractors and internal stakeholders.
- Provide regular project status reports to senior management.
Commercial Management
- Ensure projects achieve or exceed target profit margins.
- Prepare and submit applications for payment in accordance with contract requirements.
- Manage valuations, variations and change control processes.
- Monitor project costs, labour and subcontractor expenditure.
- Review project financial performance and identify opportunities for improved profitability.
- Support final account negotiations and project close-out.
- Manage procurement activities to secure best value and maintain budget control.
Joblogic Management
- Manage all project activity through Joblogic.
- Maintain accurate project records, documentation and reporting.
- Track labour, materials, subcontractor costs, variations and project progress.
- Ensure all project information is current and auditable.
Subcontractor Management
- Develop, maintain and utilise a trusted network of M&E subcontractors.
- Source and appoint specialist subcontractors as required.
- Manage subcontractor performance, quality, productivity and compliance.
- Carry out regular site inspections and progress reviews.
- Resolve subcontractor disputes and performance issues professionally and efficiently.
Health & Safety
- Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety legislation and company procedures.
- Prepare, review and approve RAMS (Risk Assessments and Method Statements).
- Conduct site audits and safety inspections.
- Promote a positive health and safety culture across all projects.
- Ensure all project teams operate in line with CDM regulations and client requirements.
- Investigate and report incidents where necessary.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure all installations meet required quality standards.
- Manage commissioning, testing and handover processes.
- Ensure project documentation is complete and maintained accurately.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Drive a right-first-time culture across project teams.
Customer Management
- Build strong and lasting relationships with clients.
- Act as the primary point of contact throughout project delivery.
- Manage client expectations and provide proactive communication including weekly / monthly meetings
- Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction are achieved on every project.
- Identify opportunities for additional works and future business development.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
The Project Manager will be measured against:
- Gross profit achieved versus budget.
- Projects completed on time.
- Projects completed within budget.
- Health & Safety compliance.
- Quality and defect performance.
- Client satisfaction scores.
- Applications for payment submitted accurately and on time.
- Variation recovery and commercial performance.
- Subcontractor performance.
- Accuracy and completeness of Joblogic project records.
Skills & Experience Required
Essential
- Minimum 5 years' experience as an M&E Project Manager or Contracts Manager.
- Strong mechanical and electrical project delivery experience.
- Experience managing projects from mobilisation to completion.
- Proven commercial management experience.
- Experience preparing and submitting applications for payment.
- Strong understanding of contract administration and change control.
- Experience using Joblogic or similar project management software.
- Excellent subcontractor management skills.
- Strong working knowledge of RAMS and Health & Safety legislation.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
- SMSTS.
- CSCS Black Card.
- First Aid at Work.
- IOSH Managing Safely or NEBOSH qualification.
- HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Building Services Engineering.
- Experience delivering HVAC, cooling, refrigeration or critical environment projects.
