As our international trade continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced Import/Export Manager to lead and continuously improve our global logistics operation.
This is far more than a compliance role.
You will be responsible for ensuring our international supply chain operates efficiently, cost effectively and compliantly while identifying opportunities to reduce costs, improve delivery performance and strengthen supplier relationships.
Reporting directly to the Directors, you will have the opportunity to influence business performance through smarter logistics, better customs management and continuous improvement.
What Success Looks Like
Within your first 12 months you will:
· Deliver 98%+ on time international deliveries.
· Achieve 100% customs compliance, eliminating customs penalties and shipment delays.
· Reduce freight and logistics costs through improved carrier negotiations and route optimisation.
· Improve shipment visibility by implementing meaningful logistics reporting and KPI dashboards.
· Strengthen relationships with freight forwarders, customs brokers and overseas suppliers to improve service levels and responsiveness.
· Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency across the international supply chain.
· Ensure import and export documentation is consistently accurate and completed right first time.
Key Responsibilities
You will take ownership of the entire international logistics function, including:
· Managing all import and export activities in line with UK customs legislation and HMRC requirements.
· Ensuring full compliance with customs regulations, commodity (HS) codes, Incoterms® and international trade legislation.
· Managing international freight across road, sea, air and rail.
· Leading relationships with freight forwarders, customs brokers and overseas logistics partners.
· Preparing and approving all import/export documentation including : Commercial Invoices, Packing Lists, Bills of Lading, Air Waybills, Certificates of Origin and Customs documentation
· Negotiating competitive freight contracts and monitoring transport expenditure.
· Producing regular logistics performance reports covering cost, delivery performance, customs compliance and supplier performance.
· Working collaboratively with Purchasing, Sales, Warehouse and Finance to ensure seamless product flow.
· Proactively resolving customs, transport and supply chain issues before they impact customers.
· Driving continuous improvement across international logistics processes.
About You
We are looking for someone who enjoys taking ownership, solving problems and improving performance.
You will ideally have:
· At least 5 years' experience managing import and export operations within the UK.
· A qualification in Supply Chain, Logistics, International Trade or equivalent experience.
· Excellent knowledge of UK customs legislation, HMRC procedures and international shipping documentation.
· Strong understanding of HS Codes, customs declarations and Incoterms®.
· Experience managing freight by road, sea, air and rail.
· A proven ability to negotiate freight costs and improve logistics performance.
· Strong commercial awareness with a track record of reducing operational costs while maintaining excellent customer service.
· Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
· Strong analytical skills with experience producing logistics KPIs and performance reports.
· Experience using ERP, logistics systems and Microsoft Office.
