Full job description

Crossbasket House provides accommodation and support for families with seriously ill children receiving care in the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow and other hospitals in the West of Scotland.

Many need emergency treatment and can end up very far from home for weeks, months or even years at a time. We help keep families together by providing free, high-quality accommodation, only a few minutes’ walk from the hospital.

In order to forward our Development Programme, we are delighted to be recruiting an additional :

Bereavement Support Practitioner Reward and Benefits Package

The role of the Bereavement Support Practitioner is responsible for providing support to individuals, couples, siblings and families who are experiencing grief due to the loss of a baby, child or young person, following treatment and care within the maternity, neonatal and paediatric sites across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC). The role will also provide support to professionals whose role is affected by the death of a child.

Reporting to: Bereavement Support Manager

Contract Type: Permanent

Salary: £19,843.50 P/A

Hours: Part-time, 22.5 hours per week

Location: Hybrid model - Crossbasket House, Govan Road, Glasgow Various NHSGGC sites throughout Greater Glasgow & Clyde

Annual Leave: 25 days annual leave plus 10 public holidays (pro-rata)

Pension: Auto-enrolment with a 5% company contribution

Death in Service Benefit: Provided at no cost to the employee

Key Responsibilities

Case Management: Providing personalised support to children, parents/carers, families and NHSGGC staff.
One-to-One Support: Offering individual support sessions to help clients work through their emotions and grief.
Group Support: Facilitating bereavement support groups where individuals can share their experiences and receive peer support.
Community Outreach: Engaging with organisations and diverse communities, to promote inclusivity and ensure accessible bereavement support services.
Materials: To contribute to the creation and development of key materials that support those affected by the loss of a baby, child or young person e.g. online resources, leaflets, website content.
Outreach: The main service will be based in acute sites throughout Greater Glasgow and Clyde, with potential outreach responsibilities extending throughout Scotland.
Training: Undertake training and skills development and keep up to date with the changing requirements of this role.
Volunteer Support: Assisting in the recruitment, training, and supervision of volunteers involved in bereavement support services.
Administration: To be responsible for providing efficient and effective administrative support to the overall delivery of the service, including responding to enquiries by email, telephone or in person.
Record Keeping: Maintaining confidential case notes and ensuring ethical practice.
Reporting: To contribute to the reporting and overall evaluation of the bereavement support service.
Events: Attendance at key events throughout the year, including annual remembrance service. Many of these events will not necessarily take place during core working hours.

Essential Criteria

Candidates require a recognised degree level or equivalent qualification in health, social care/work, or counselling.
Experience of working with individuals, couples and families.
Experience of working with children and young people.
Strong communication skills and a commitment to supporting bereaved individuals.
Competent level of IT skills (full Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel, Email and Internet).
Committed to continuous professional development.
Driving license.
A PVG check will be carried out, therefore it is essential that all criminal convictions are disclosed.
Knowledge of Data Protection compliance.

Desirable Criteria

Experience of using e-Tapestry (database).
Experience of working with volunteers.
Experience of delivering therapeutic work.
