Full job description

To lead and manage a shift of up to 30 employees across all departmental operational activities, ensuring the consistent delivery of high-quality GRP products. The role is accountable for achieving output targets while upholding the highest standards of product quality, process compliance, and customer satisfaction, both internally and to BMDS external customers. The supervisor will champion continuous improvement, quality assurance, and adherence to safety and environmental standards.

The supervisor will report all KPI targets along with any issues encountered during the shift to the GRP Manager and Production Manager in a daily end of shift report.

Also, must be able report to Management on throughput and quality concerns.

The Supervisor will be the 1st line Manager to the team, therefore must be capable to deputise for the GRP production manager when required.

About The Role

Ensure daily production schedules are completed with a focus on meeting product specifications and quality standards.
Oversee quality control of raw materials (resins, glass rovings, mats, additives), ensuring traceability and compliance with specifications.
Prevent the release of non-conforming GRP sheets, using inspection and testing protocols to maintain product integrity.
Maintain ISO 9001 and BMDS quality management system compliance, ensuring all operations meet internal and external audit requirements.
Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for any quality issues or customer complaints originating from the GRP department.
Monitor and improve first-time-right production rates, reducing rework, scrap, and excess material usage.
Collaborate with engineering and technical teams to develop and refine manufacturing processes that enhance product quality and consistency.
Ensure all team members are trained in quality-critical procedures, including visual inspection, measurement techniques, and defect identification.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date quality documentation, including inspection records, skill matrices, and training logs.
To conduct employee reviews and regular 1:1’s with operators that report directly to you, and ensure that they have current SMART objectives that relate to departmental objectives and personal development.
Capable to monitor and understand operator skill level and inform your GRP production manager if you feel that an operator that reports to you has completed their current set of skill verification sheets and is due for a promotion / pay review.
Drive a culture of continuous improvement using quality tools (e.g., 5 Whys, Pareto analysis, SPC) to identify and eliminate sources of variation.
Support the development and launch of new products by providing quality-focused production input and ensuring readiness for scale-up.
Conduct regular quality-focused team briefings, sharing KPIs, lessons learned, and reinforcing quality expectations.
Ensure all operators understand and follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions related to quality.
Promote a clean, organized, and safe working environment through 5S and visual management, supporting both quality and efficiency

- Proven experience in quality-driven production environments, ideally within GRP or composite manufacturing.
- Strong understanding of quality systems, including ISO 9001, and experience with audits and compliance.
- Change Management – driving improvements in quality systems and processes.
