Who we are

Heart of the Village (HOTV) is a Community Benefit Society in Stoke St Gregory on the Somerset Levels. The Royal Oak pub is part of that enterprise and a true community hub.

What we are offering

Apart from the opportunity to truly put your stamp on and be the face of the pub we offer a package worth 31K which includes the live in accommodation.

Who we are looking for

Someone who has a true heart for hospitality within a rural village setting, eager to put their stamp on a traditional village pub, delivering a warm and welcoming experience. You will be responsible for the wet led part of the pub and provide front of house customer service for our kitchen.

General Purpose

To deliver a great pub experience and maintain a financially and socially successful community pub, while continuing the reciprocal relationship with the village shop, cafe and kitchen which are an equally important part of HOTV. To work in conjunction with, and supported by, the Management Committee of the venture in order to deliver benefit to the community.

Specific Responsibilities

Interacting with customers (including serving food and drink) and ensuring that high standards of customer service are maintained at all times.
Maintaining a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all customers and delivering excellent front of house service.
Undertaking regular stock checks, ensuring stock rotation, placing orders with suppliers and restocking (which involves physical work)
All aspects of cellar management.
Working closely with the manager who runs the village shop, cafe & kitchen to deliver a broad customer offering.
Taking responsibility for and ensuring compliance with pub safety, security, health and safety and other relevant regulations.
Organising and advertising entertainment (such as live music events, comedy nights, quizzes and karaoke competitions)
Collecting and acting on customer feedback to improve the overall running of the venue.
Providing basic facilities management to the entire HOTV premises located at the Royal Oak
Recruiting, training and managing part time pub staff and volunteers including rota and holiday management
Working closely with the Volunteer Lead to fill any gaps in the rota.
Ensuring good financial record keeping working with established till and bookkeeping procedures.
Monitoring profitability and performance in conjunction with your line manager.
Maintaining positive relations with members of the local community clubs and organisations, the police and licensing authorities.

Skills and Experiences Required

A can do attitude and the skill to make everyone feel at home and welcome
At least two years experience in running a pub single handedly (front of house, cellar management, till and finance management, compliance, staff management)
Understanding of working in a community run organisation
Trustworthy and well-presented
The ability and character to lead and motivate varied personalities
Strong organisational and communication skills
Willingness to work unsociable hours.
The ability to work independently whilst co-operating with other parts of the organisation..
