Kitchen Cook Assistant Opportunity – Oldfield Forge Café

Job Overview

Oldfield Forge Café is looking for an enthusiastic and reliable Kitchen Cook Assistant to join our small, dedicated kitchen team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with kitchen experience who enjoys preparing quality food, working as part of a close-knit team, and wants to develop their culinary skills within a growing family-run business.

You will assist with the day-to-day running of the kitchen, helping prepare and cook food, maintain high standards of cleanliness and food safety, and support our chefs during busy café service and catering events.

About Oldfield Forge Café

Oldfield Forge Café is set in the heart of rural Herefordshire, where we pride ourselves on creating quality, homemade food with a street-food influence, using fresh local produce wherever possible.

With the launch of our new outdoor BBQ kitchen and our expanding catering business, this is an exciting time to join our team and grow with us.

The Role

We are looking for someone who is hardworking, organised, and passionate about food. Previous experience in a commercial kitchen is desirable, but a positive attitude, willingness to learn, and enthusiasm are just as important.

Your responsibilities will include:

Assisting with the preparation and cooking of café menu items
Preparing ingredients and supporting daily food production
Helping maintain consistently high food quality and presentation
Assisting with stock rotation and food storage
Washing up, cleaning, and maintaining a safe, hygienic kitchen
Following food safety and hygiene procedures
Supporting catering events and outdoor BBQ service when required
Working as part of the wider team to deliver an excellent customer experience

As part of a small team, flexibility is essential. You'll be expected to help wherever needed, whether that's food preparation, pot wash, cleaning, or assisting chefs during busy service.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a busy kitchen environment and wants to build their experience within an ambitious and supportive business.
