Responsible to: Subject Leader of Science

Salary: £22,318 (£25,976 FTE) 36.5 hours pw (38 weeks + 5 inset days)

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated School Science Technician to support the science department in maintaining a safe, efficient, and engaging laboratory environment. The successful candidate will assist with the preparation and organisation of scientific experiments, ensure compliance with safety standards, and support teachers and students in their practical lessons. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with a keen interest in science and laboratory operations to develop their skills within an educational setting.

Responsibilities

Prepare laboratory materials, equipment, and chemicals for science lessons and experiments, ensuring all items meet safety standards.
Assist teachers and students during practical sessions, providing technical support and guidance as needed.
Maintain accurate records of laboratory activities using Laboratory Information
Conduct routine quality control checks on laboratory equipment to ensure proper functioning and safety compliance.
Organise and manage stock levels of chemicals, apparatus, and consumables, placing orders when necessary.
Ensure the laboratory environment adheres to health and safety regulations, including compliance with FDA regulations where applicable.
Support in the disposal of hazardous waste following proper protocols.
Assist with the calibration, cleaning, and maintenance of scientific instruments.
Contribute to the organisation of science displays or events within the school community.

Skills

Strong analysis skills with an ability to interpret scientific data accurately.
Previous laboratory experience or familiarity with scientific research practices is desirable.
Knowledge of quality control procedures within a laboratory setting.
Understanding of FDA regulations relevant to laboratory safety and chemical handling.
Good organisational skills with attention to detail in preparing experiments and maintaining records.
Effective communication skills to collaborate with teachers, students, and suppliers.

Conditions

· Term time only plus inset days.

· Usual daily working hours between 8:00am and 16:30pm Mon-Thur and 8:00am and 15:30pm Fri, total 36.5 hours per week, actual working hours to be agreed on appointment.

The postholder will have responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons s/he comes into contact with.
