Freelance Set Build Team (Lead Set Builders, Set Builders, Assistants & Labourers)

About Blackhurst & Co.

Blackhurst & Co. specialises in set design, set build, art department support, backdrop hire and prop hire for commercial campaigns across fashion, sport, music and brand activations.

Following our move into a larger workshop in Southport, we're expanding our freelance Set Build team and are looking to connect with talented people across Liverpool, Southport and the wider North West.

We work with brands including Gymshark, Primark, Liverpool FC, Manchester City, Chelsea FC, ASOS and British Vogue, delivering everything from simple studio sets through to large-scale commercial installations.

Please note: This is a freelance opportunity, not a permanent employed position. Work is offered on a project-by-project basis as and when required.

Who we're looking for

We're looking to hear from:

Lead Set Builders
Set Builders
Set Build Assistants
Set Build Labourers

Whether you've been building sets for years or you're looking for your first opportunity within the industry, we'd love to hear from you.

Set Build Labourer applicants should have a good understanding of basic hand and power tools, including drills, impact drivers and measuring equipment, along with good practical skills and a willingness to get stuck in.

Typical responsibilities

Depending on your experience, you may be involved in:

Building scenic flats, walls and bespoke set pieces
Carpentry and fabrication
Workshop preparation and assembly
Loading and unloading vehicles
Installing and dismantling sets on location
Working from technical drawings and creative briefs
Maintaining a clean, safe and organised workspace
Supporting the wider Blackhurst team as required

Ideal experience

We're particularly interested in people with experience in:

Set building
Scenic construction
Carpentry or joinery
Exhibition or event builds
Retail fit-outs
Workshop fabrication

What we're looking for

Reliable and punctual
Positive attitude and strong work ethic
Good practical problem-solving skills
Comfortable using hand and power tools (where applicable)
Able to work independently and as part of a team
Full UK driving licence is desirable, but not essential
