Multi-Trade Handyman / Maintenance Operative (Subcontractor)

Location: Lewisham, Stratford & Enfield.
Job Type: Self-Employed Subcontractor
Rate: Competitive – based on experience and qualifications
Start Date: Immediate

About the Role

We are looking for a reliable and experienced Multi-Trade Handyman to provide maintenance support across three Ofsted-registered children's homes located in Lewisham, Stratford and Enfield.

The successful candidate will carry out a variety of planned and reactive maintenance tasks to ensure the homes remain safe, well-maintained, and compliant. As the role involves working in environments occupied by vulnerable young people, professionalism, reliability, and a strong safeguarding awareness are essential.

Typical Duties

General repairs and maintenance
Basic plumbing repairs
Basic electrical repairs (within competency and qualifications)
Carpentry and joinery works
Painting and decorating
Door, lock and window repairs
Flooring repairs and replacements
Furniture assembly and minor installations
Responding to reactive maintenance issues

Essential Requirements

Proven experience as a Multi-Trade Handyman / Maintenance Operative
Own van, tools and valid driving licence
Public Liability Insurance
Good knowledge across multiple trades
Ability to work independently and manage own workload
Excellent communication skills
Reliable, trustworthy and professional manner

Preferred Qualifications

NVQ or City & Guilds qualification in a relevant trade
Basic electrical qualification (18th Edition desirable)
Plumbing or carpentry qualifications
PASMA, IPAF or other trade-related certifications
First Aid qualification (desirable)

Safeguarding Requirements

Due to the nature of the sites:

Enhanced DBS Check (will be eventually required)
Understanding of safeguarding and working around vulnerable young people
Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality
References will be required
