The role:
We have a vacancy for Band 6 Therapy Radiographers within the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre.
The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre provides an integrated cancer management and treatment service for patients from the West of Scotland and beyond. Facilities are situated in the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre on the Gartnavel Hospitals site. Approximately 6500 courses of radiotherapy are provided annually requiring over 100,000 patient attendances. The Radiotherapy Department is equipped with the most up-to-date facilities currently available which include 11 Varian Truebeam linear accelerators, 3 CT Scanners, Advantage Windows Virtual Simulation system, Eclipse planning system and all are networked via the ARIA Radiotherapy Management System.
The post-holder will be responsible for accurate planning, calculation and delivery of radiation treatment. The post- holder is also responsible for the maintenance of accurate records for each patient.
The post holder will be required to rotate through specialist areas such as pre-treatment, CT simulator and all treatment machines of the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre providing a highly specialised clinical service to patients suffering with cancer.
With supervision from the Band 7 radiographer, he/she will assist in the day to day operation of a treatment unit, CT simulator or other area of the department. In addition during breaks, meetings etc he/she will manage the area.
All other roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Key responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with and contribute to statutory, divisional and departmental policies, procedures, rules, regulations and protocols with respect to patient care and safety. Ensure compliance with IR(ME)R 2000, IRR99 and local rules for radiation safety.

Recognise the significance of the Departmental Quality System (QART) and IR(ME)R regulations within the designated area. Assist with development of written procedures and work instructions.

Ensure that any complaint is referred to the appropriate authority.

Supervise more junior staff and colleagues and delegate workload when necessary.

Maintain safe and efficient use of equipment and electronic programs in the designated area; take timely and appropriate action to resolve faults or problems.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
- State Registration with HCPC as therapy radiographers is mandatory

Knowledge and understanding of IR(ME)R (Ionising Radiation Medical Exposure Regulations)

In depth knowledge and experience of all modules of the ARIA radiotherapy system

Successful completion of competency programme signed off by a Band 7 Radiographer in specialist areas such as image review, CT, Virtual simulation and advantage windows.

Knowledge and experience of BWoSCC Clinical Protocols and Radiation Physics Planning techniques.

Demonstration of a high degree of competency and experience in all areas of radiotherapy

Leadership skills; the ability to act in a supervisory capacity.

The post-holder at this level will continue to develop their specialist clinical and technical skills and maintain a record of such continuous development in the form of a Continous Professional Development Portfolio as required by HCPC.
