Full job description

Job Overview

We are seeking a Safeguarding Lead to provide both strategic leadership and operational oversight of safeguarding across Fleetwood Town Community Trust. As the Trust's Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), the post holder will lead the development of an outstanding safeguarding culture, ensuring the highest standards of practice, compliance and continuous improvement across all areas of the organisation. The successful candidate will manage safeguarding concerns, provide expert advice to staff and volunteers, develop safeguarding policies and procedures, deliver training and work closely with statutory agencies to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all participants.

Duties

Lead the development, implementation and continuous review of the Trust's Safeguarding Strategy.
Promote and embed a proactive safeguarding culture throughout the organisation. Advise the Chief Executive Officer and Senior Leadership Team on safeguarding legislation, emerging risks and best practice.
Produce quarterly safeguarding reports and an annual safeguarding report for the Board of Trustees.
Develop and monitor annual safeguarding action plans.
Ensure safeguarding is integrated into programme design, planning and delivery. Lead organisational safeguarding audits and quality assurance activities.
Monitor compliance with safeguarding legislation and governing body requirements. Represent the Trust at safeguarding networks, forums and partnership meetings.
Act as the Trust's Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).
Receive, assess and manage safeguarding concerns in line with statutory guidance.
Make referrals to Children's Social Care, Adult Social Care, Lancashire Police and the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) where appropriate. Maintain secure, confidential and accurate safeguarding records.
Attend Child Protection Conferences, Core Group Meetings, Strategy Meetings and Multi-Agency Safeguarding Meetings where required.
Provide safeguarding advice and guidance to staff, volunteers and partner organisations.
Support programme managers with safeguarding risk assessments and safe working practices.
Manage safeguarding allegations against staff and volunteers in line with Trust procedures.
Ensure all safeguarding incidents are managed professionally, confidentially and within required timescales.

Requirements

Proven experience working with children in educational, community, or childcare settings.
Strong understanding of safeguarding legislation, policies, and best practices relevant to working with minors.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to handle sensitive situations professionally and compassionately.
Ability to lead training sessions and influence organisational culture positively.
Highly organised with meticulous attention to detail in record-keeping and reporting.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with external agencies and internal teams.
Relevant qualifications in safeguarding or child protection are preferred but not essential; ongoing professional development is encouraged.
