Kitchen Assistant – The Ferns Care Home, Shropshire

Job Summary
The Ferns Care Home is seeking a reliable and hardworking Kitchen Assistant to support the kitchen team in maintaining a clean, safe, and organised kitchen environment. The successful candidate will assist with the smooth day-to-day running of the kitchen, helping to ensure that meals are prepared and served efficiently for our residents. This role offers a good opportunity for someone looking to gain experience within a care home catering environment.

Key Responsibilities

Wash, clean and sanitise dishes, utensils, pots, pans and kitchen equipment in line with hygiene standards.
Assist the kitchen team with basic food preparation tasks such as peeling, chopping and preparing ingredients.
Support the team during busy service periods to ensure meals are delivered to residents on time.
Maintain the cleanliness of kitchen work surfaces, floors and storage areas throughout the shift.
Ensure waste is disposed of correctly and recycling procedures are followed.
Restock kitchen supplies and maintain organised storage areas.
Follow all health, safety and food hygiene procedures to maintain a safe working environment.

Requirements

Previous experience in a kitchen, catering or hospitality environment would be beneficial but is not essential, as full training will be provided.
A basic understanding of food preparation and kitchen practices is desirable.
Good organisational skills and the ability to work efficiently in a busy environment.
A positive, reliable and team-focused approach to work.
Good communication skills and willingness to assist colleagues where required.
Flexibility to work shifts as required.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working as part of a team and would like to gain experience within a professional kitchen while supporting the delivery of quality meals for our residents.
