Help deliver cutting-edge clinical research that makes a real difference to patients' lives. Join PenCTU and play a pivotal role in supporting high-quality clinical trials within a nationally recognised Clinical Trials Unit.

About the role

The UKCRC-registered Peninsula Clinical Trials Unit (PenCTU) at the University of Plymouth provides multi-disciplinary academic support to researchers and clinicians for the design and conduct of high quality clinical trials and other well designed research studies. With a growing portfolio of studies, funded by the NIHR and other major non-commercial research funding bodies, we currently have an exciting opportunity to get involved with clinical trials. We are seeking an Assistant Trial Manager to join the PenCTU trial team. You need to be a suitably experienced person, with energy and enthusiasm to grasp new opportunities and help shape the future of the PenCTU within a committed team. Working closely with trial managers, data managers, statisticians, methodologists, and clinical investigators, you will contribute to the development, coordination, and delivery of a portfolio of clinical trials and research studies.

The role is responsible for supporting studies throughout the trial lifecycle, from study set-up through to completion, while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements and research governance standards.

You will:

Manage and coordinate the delivery of clinical trials and research studies throughout their lifecycle.
Work collaboratively with investigators and multidisciplinary study teams to plan, implement, and oversee trial activities.
Ensure compliance with NHS research governance, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and UK clinical trial regulations.
Support the development and maintenance of trial documentation, reports, study procedures, and regulatory submissions.
Monitor study progress, manage competing priorities, and facilitate effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.

For this role you will need to be on site 2 days a week. Although we can accommodate working from home for this role, flexibility to be on-site will be expected due to business needs.

What we’re looking for

You will have:

Experience of working in health services research in an NHS or academic environment
Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, and databases
Basic knowledge of the major regulatory frameworks governing clinical research, including but not limited to the Medicines for Human Use (Clinical Trials) Regulations, the UK Policy Framework for Health and Social Care Research and the Data Protection Act
Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills
Excellent written communication skills
