Do you love, live-fire cooking, BBQ, hog roasts and the ever-evolving street food scene?

The Red House is an award-winning countryside venue looking for an experienced Freelance BBQ, Hog Roast & Street Food Chef to join us on an ad hoc basis for weddings, private celebrations and corporate events throughout the year.

This isn't a mobile catering role. We provide the venue, equipment, ingredients and support—you simply bring your skills, creativity and passion for exceptional food.

The Role

You'll be responsible for preparing and cooking our BBQ, hog roast and outdoor event menus, ensuring every guest receives high-quality food while maintaining excellent food hygiene and presentation standards.

This is a customer-facing role. Our BBQs, hog roasts and outdoor kitchens are a key part of the guest experience, with guests enjoying the theatre of watching their food being prepared and cooked fresh in front of them. We're looking for someone who enjoys interacting with people, takes pride in their work and helps create a memorable atmosphere alongside exceptional food.

Working alongside our experienced kitchen and front of house teams, you'll help deliver outstanding weddings, celebrations and corporate events in one of Cambridgeshire's most beautiful countryside venues.

We're not looking for someone who simply turns up and cooks the same menu every weekend.

If you have a passion for BBQ, smokehouse cooking or the street food scene, we'd love you to bring your ideas to the table. There will be opportunities to work with us to develop exciting new menus, trial different street food concepts and help shape the future of our outdoor catering offering.

Whether it's low-and-slow barbecue, tacos, loaded fries, smash burgers, bao buns, gyros, dirty fries, wood-fired dishes or something completely different, we're always open to fresh ideas that create memorable experiences for our guests.

We're Looking For Someone Who

Has previous experience as a chef in a pub, restaurant, hotel or events environment
Has a genuine passion for BBQ, live-fire cooking or street food
Is confident cooking for large numbers of guests
Enjoys engaging with customers and understands that outdoor cooking is part of the guest experience
Is friendly, approachable and professional
Can work independently and remain calm under pressure
Takes pride in producing consistently excellent food
Is reliable, organised and enjoys working as part of a team
Has their own transport due to our rural location

The Work

Flexible, ad hoc shifts throughout the year
Mainly Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays
Weddings, private celebrations and corporate events
Typical shifts are around 8–10 hours
Opportunities for additional kitchen shifts may also be available

Pay & Benefits

£20–£25 per hour, depending on experience
Minimum 8-hour paid shift (£160 guaranteed)
Additional hours paid at your agreed hourly rate
