Full job description

Teaching and Learning

Plan, prepare and deliver structured teaching sessions across Foundation Year Computer Science and AI modules.
Deliver engaging teaching through face-to-face, online or blended learning environments as required by programme delivery.
Support students in developing knowledge and understanding of computing, programming, mathematics, digital technologies and Artificial Intelligence concepts
Introduce students to key areas such as computer systems, software development, data analysis, cybersecurity, AI applications and digital problem-solving.
Adapt teaching strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners, including international students and adult learners.

Assessment and Academic Support

Assess learner assignments and coursework against approved assessment criteria and awarding body standards.
Provide constructive, timely and developmental feedback to support student learning and academic progress.
Monitor learner engagement, attendance and academic progress, identifying and supporting students who may be at risk of underachievement.
Provide academic guidance and support to learners regarding programme requirements and progression opportunities.

Quality Assurance and Compliance

Maintain accurate records of attendance, assessment outcomes and learner progress in accordance with institutional and partner requirements.
Participate in internal verification, moderation and quality assurance activities.
Ensure teaching and assessment practices comply with MCC policies, awarding body regulations and partnership agreements.
Contribute to programme monitoring, review and enhancement activities.

Partnership and Professional Engagement

Collaborate effectively with MCC academic staff and partner institution representatives to ensure consistent programme delivery.
Contribute to the development and improvement of curriculum materials and teaching resources.
Support practical learning activities, industry projects and placement-related learning where relevant.
Participate in departmental meetings, training activities and academic development initiatives.
Maintain an up-to-date CPD record and stay informed of developments in hospitality and event management education and industry practice.

Essential Skills and Knowledge

Ability to deliver structured teaching at higher education level.

Ability to assess learner work against defined assessment criteria.

Ability to monitor and evaluate learner progress using formal systems.

Effective communication skills appropriate to a teaching professional role.

Ability to maintain accurate academic and compliance records.

Professional judgement in applying curriculum and assessment requirements.

Knowledge of Computer Science, programming, Artificial Intelligence and digital technologies.

Understanding of current developments within the technology sector.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

Essential

RQF Level 7 or above qualification in a relevant subject area.

A recognised teaching qualification (or commitment to obtain one).

A subject-related qualification appropriate for HE delivery.

Experience delivering teaching or training in an HE or comparable educational setting.

Experience assessing learner work and providing academic feedback.
Updated yearly CPD Log.

Desirable

Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science or a related discipline.

Industry experience in software development, AI, data analytics, cybersecurity or related fields.

Experience teaching adult learners and/or international students.

Industry experience in hospitality or event management.

Knowledge of emerging AI technologies, machine learning tools and digital learning platforms.

Experience delivering blended and online learning sessions.

Summary

This role supports the delivery of Magna Carta College’s Computer Science with AI programmes by providing high-quality teaching, academic guidance and assessment for students enrolled on the programme. The Lecturer will play a key role in creating an engaging and supportive learning environment that encourages student participation, critical thinking and the development of subject knowledge relevant to the hospitality and events sector.

Working within MCC’s partnership delivery framework, the Lecturer will ensure that teaching and assessment practices meet the academic standards and regulatory requirements set by the College, awarding bodies and partner institutions. The role involves delivering structured teaching sessions, assessing learner work against approved criteria, monitoring student progress and providing constructive feedback to support academic development and achievement.

The Lecturer will also contribute to maintaining high standards of quality assurance by participating in internal verification processes, maintaining accurate academic records and supporting programme monitoring and review activities. In addition, the role requires effective collaboration with MCC academic teams, programme leaders and partner institutions to ensure consistency in teaching delivery and student support.

Through effective teaching practice and ongoing professional development, the Lecturer will help prepare students for progression onto undergraduate Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence programmes and future careers within the technology sector, while contributing to the continued growth and reputation of Magna Carta College's partnership education provision.
