What is the role?
Accountable for defining, owning, and assuring solution architectures across a complex portfolio of enterprise and critical national infrastructure systems supporting a 24/7 airport operation. Front the translation of business needs into end-to-end solution designs, balancing innovation with operational integrity, cost and delivery timelines and aligning to business strategy.
This role takes an office first hybrid approach here at London Gatwick, with three days a week in the office, two days remote, managed around the needs of the business.
What will you do?
- Owns end-to-end solution architecture across multiple projects, ensuring alignment with enterprise strategy, architecture principles, and national critical infrastructure requirements.
- Provide thought leadership in shaping technology roadmaps focusing on resilience, security, and sustainability.
- Accountability for solution approval and architectural integrity across delivery.
- Head the design of secure, highly available and scalable solutions, with a focus on operationally critical systems.
- Drive adoption of modern API-first and integration-driven architecture.
- Define and assure cloud architectures, including Azure and GCP landing zones, ensuring adherence to best practices.
- Embed security-by-design principles, ensuring compliance with regulatory and organisational security standards.
- Define and validate non-functional requirements, with a focus on availability, resilience, and operational performance in a 24/7 environment.
- Oversee the deliverables created by internal and third-party Solution Architects, ensuring quality and consistency of architectural outputs.
- Front architectural input into RFI/RFP processes, including vendor evaluation and solution selection.
Do you have what we're looking for?
- Degree level Technology related qualification (e.g. Computer Science)
- Experience in a significant Enterprise Architecture role
- Proven experience designing and delivering solutions within complex critical national infrastructure environments (e.g. transport, utilities, aviation, or similarly regulated sectors)
- Strong background in enterprise application ecosystems, including platforms such as SAP, Salesforce, HR systems, and enterprise integration platforms
- Hands-on experience in API-first architectures, middleware, and event-driven integration patterns
- Experience in design and implementation of Azure and/or GCP landing zones, with strong understanding of governance, identity, networking, and security controls aligned to Well-Architected Frameworks
- Experience working within regulated environments, with an understanding of compliance, audit and risk management considerations feeding into the design of highly available, resilient, 24/7 operational systems
- Strong understanding of security architecture and security-by-design principles
- Experience leading end-to-end solution design across complex programmes, including vendor-heavy environments
- Proven track record of leading, mentoring, and developing solution architects or multidisciplinary technical teams, including 3rd party resources
- Experience across the full solution lifecycle and proven track record in identifying and producing architecture related strategies and roadmaps
