Simulation Technician

Who we’re looking for:
Plymouth Marjon University are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Simulation Technician to join our ambitious team within the Department of Allied Health and Nursing to oversee the safe and effective operation of simulation equipment and software, as well as providing technical support for simulation-based learning activities in our state-of-the-art simulation suites. The Simulation Technician will work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure that the simulated learning experiences are of high quality and drive forward our extensive plans and visions for innovative scenarios.
You will have experience in a related role and proven knowledge of simulation equipment and software, including mannequins, audio-visual equipment, and computer programmes. You will have strong technical skills and have the ability to troubleshoot technical issues and perform routine maintenance on equipment and software. We are seeking an exceptional individual to support us on our journey to becoming the provider of choice for healthcare programmes in the region. You will need to be qualified to at least degree level, and/or hold comprehensive experience and an understanding of the wider sector.
What you’d be doing:
You will be responsible for the organisation, maintenance and preparation of simulation suites and equipment, including the use of video recording and computerised/technical equipment, as well as providing assistance to students and academic staff before, during and after simulation and skills sessions and masterclasses.
The Simulation Technician will be expected to undertake a range of administrative duties which include, but not restricted to, equipment ordering and maintaining the department’s inventory and capital asset register.
You will require versatility, an ability to prioritise tasks and deal with competing agendas, as well as being able to work both independently and within a team. The post will involve moving and handling of equipment. Responsibilities of this post will include:
- Set up and operate simulation equipment, including mannequins, computer programs, and audiovisual equipment.
- Monitor simulation sessions to ensure safe and effective use of equipment and software.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to design and develop simulation scenarios and activities.
- Provide technical support to programme teams and students during simulation-based learning activities.
- Maintain simulation equipment and software, troubleshoot technical issues, and perform routine maintenance.
- Keep accurate records of equipment usage and maintenance activities.
- Participate in the evaluation and selection of new simulation equipment and software.

- Creativity: Developing effective simulation scenarios and activities requires a level of creativity and imagination to ensure that the simulations accurately reflect real-world scenarios and provide a meaningful learning experience for students.

Where you’ll work:
In this role, you’ll be based in the Allied Health and Nursing team within the Department of Allied Health and Nursing, on our green campus in the north of Plymouth. The Department of Allied Health and Nursing is the largest in the University, delivering a broad range of health programmes including courses leading to professional registration, as well as healthcare apprenticeships. Our current hybrid working policy means you can work from home or on campus, but you will be required to maintain a strong campus link and be available on-site at least 3 days per week.
