SENDIASS Practitioner

Location: Hull
Salary: £24,864 per annum (FTE)
Hours: Up to 36 hours per week (flexible working available)

Make a Difference to Children, Young People and Families

We are looking for a compassionate, knowledgeable and motivated SENDIASS Practitioner to join our team in Hull. This rewarding role offers the opportunity to provide independent, legally based information, advice and support to children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and their families.

We welcome applications from candidates seeking full-time, part-time, term-time or other flexible working arrangements.

About the Role

As a SENDIASS Practitioner, you will support children and young people aged 0–25 and their families by providing impartial advice on education, health and social care matters. You'll help families understand their rights, navigate the SEND system and access the support they need.

The role is primarily office-based, with local outreach work, attendance at external meetings and occasional out-of-hours appointments. A full driving licence, access to a car and business-use insurance are essential.

Key Responsibilities

Provide impartial information, advice and support by phone, email, online and face-to-face.
Explain rights and responsibilities under SEND legislation.
Support families through Education, Health and Care (EHC) needs assessments, annual reviews, appeals and tribunals.
Help resolve disagreements and advise on complaints and routes of redress.
Signpost families to appropriate local and national support services.
Manage referrals and provide focused casework, including attending meetings, mediations and tribunals where appropriate.
Work directly with young people aged 16–25, parents, carers and professionals.
Support families to complete assessments, reviews and complaints documentation through drop-in sessions.
Promote the SENDIASS service through community engagement and partnership working.
Maintain accurate records and contribute to service monitoring and reporting.
Keep up to date with SEND legislation, policy and best practice.
Follow safeguarding procedures and promote the welfare of children and young people at all times.

About You

Essential

Knowledge of SEND legislation, including the Children and Families Act 2014, Education Act 1996, SEN Code of Practice and Disability Discrimination Act (or a willingness to develop this knowledge).
Ability to complete specialist SEND legal framework training.
Experience supporting vulnerable children, young people and families.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex information clearly.
The ability to remain impartial and work within the IASS Minimum Standards.
Experience working in partnership with professionals across multiple agencies.
Strong organisational and IT skills, including experience using databases and Microsoft Excel.
Knowledge of safeguarding, confidentiality and data protection requirements.
A flexible, professional approach with experience managing challenging situations.
NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent, such as A Levels).
A full driving licence, access to a vehicle and business-use insurance.

Desirable

Experience delivering training or workshops.
Experience working in schools.
Experience of mediation, conflict resolution or dispute resolution.
