Full job description

EB Critical are a market-leading provider of mission critical industrial infrastructure solutions across the UK. Specialising in high efficiency combustion systems, fluid handling, and water treatment, we support sectors from food processing and brewing to pharmaceuticals and Oil and Gas.

We are looking for a consultative seller to manage the full lifecycle of our clients' critical assets - from boiler houses to pump skids.

You will be responsible for selling capital equipment upgrades, long-term service agreements (O&M), emergency support contracts, and chemical water treatment programmes for boilers systems, industrial burners, and pumping systems, all while navigating UK specific regulations (EA, OFGEM, HSE).

Key Responsibilities

1. Business Development & Account Management

· Prospect and develop new business within UK industrial heartlands (Food & Bev, Brewing/Distilling, Paper, Chemicals, District Heating, NHS estates).
· Manage and grow an existing regional account base, focusing on contract renewals and cross-selling upgrades.
· Achieve and exceed annual sales quotas.

2. Technical Solution Selling (The "Trusted Advisor" Role)

· Service Contracts: Sell preventive maintenance and breakdown cover to minimise downtime and ensure compliance with PSSR (Pressure Systems Safety Regulations) and EA combustion emissions limits.
· Capital Projects (Upgrades): Identify ageing or inefficient assets and propose turnkey retrofits—e.g., burner management system overhauls, low-NOx burner conversions to meet Local Authority clean air requirements, VFD installations for pumps, and heat recovery projects.
· Water Treatment: Sell integrated chemical dosing, softening, and RO programmes to prevent scale and corrosion, ensuring boiler feedwater meets BS 2486 (or BG04) guidelines.

3. Site Audits & System Analysis

· Conduct on-site combustion efficiency tests, thermal imaging surveys, and asset performance assessments.
· Perform system water sampling to diagnose chemical imbalances.
· Prepare detailed technical proposals with UK-specific ROI calculations—including gas consumption savings, carbon footprint reduction (scope 1 & 2) , and avoided downtime costs.

4. Project Coordination

· Collaborate with our in-house design and commissioning teams to scope projects, manage submittals, and ensure seamless installation with minimal production interruption.
· Act as the primary liaison between the client and our projects team during large-scale retrofits.

Required Qualifications

· Education: Level 4 or above in Mechanical, Chemical, or Energy Engineering (or equivalent time-served apprenticeship with technical sales experience).
· Experience: 5+ years in technical sales, field service, or plant engineering within the UK industrial utilities sector.
· Core Technical Strength: Deep, demonstrable expertise in heat transfer, fluid dynamics (pump curves, NPSH, system resistance) , combustion systems, water treatment processes. You must be comfortable walking into a plant room, reading P&IDs.
· Product Knowledge: Hands-on familiarity with boiler system, combustion systems, centrifugal pumps, plate heat exchangers, and water softeners/RO skids.
· UK Regulatory Awareness: Working knowledge of PSSR 2000, DSEAR, EA Process Guidance Notes (PG 1/1), and OFGEM’s CHPQA.

Training Provided – Subsector Specialisation

We do not expect you to know every niche vertical on day one. We will provide training programmes on the less widely understood subsectors that are growing fast in the UK market, including:

· Thermal fluid (hot oil) systems – common in asphalt and textile industries, with specific fire risk and pump sealing challenges.
· CHP (Combined Heat & Power) packages – grid synchronisation, heat-to-power ratios, and UK utility interconnect agreements.
· District heating network pumping stations – variable primary flow, differential pressure control, and thermal storage integration.
· Water treatment (steam/ hot water systems),

However, to absorb that training effectively, you must bring strength in the surrounding core: steam tables, hydraulic balancing, burner flame management (UV/IR scanners), and water chemistry fundamentals (pH, conductivity, silica, alkalinity). If you can size a condensate return line from memory and explain why a deaerator temperature matters, we will teach you the rest.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

· Gross margin achievement on equipment vs. service vs. chemicals (target mix: 40/40/20).
· Service contract renewal rate (Target: >92%).
· Number of site audits and energy surveys completed per quarter.
· Average deal size growth (upselling controls, heat recovery, or water treatment into existing boiler contracts).

Competencies for Success

· Transferable Diagnostics: Even when faced with unfamiliar kit (e.g., a thermal oxidiser or a packaged steam generator), you lean on your core—air/fuel ratios, pressure drop, material compatibility—to ask sharp questions and build immediate credibility with UK plant managers.
· Consultative Listening: Diagnose operational pain points
· Crisis Management: Stay calm and solution-oriented when clients face unplanned outages—especially during winter peak demand.
· Commercial Acumen: Know when to offer a product support FOC to secure a 3-year service contract.
· Geographic Flexibility: Willingness to travel across the UK (and occasionally Ireland), with overnight stays as required. Full valid UK driving licence essential.
