A support work lead Snr plays a crucial role in providing care and support to individuals with various needs, such as those with learning disabilities, elderly people, or those with mental health issues, autism and physical disability. We specialise in complex needs and often work with high risk individuals. You must be willing to travel between towns across South Glos and Bristol and your hours will be allocated flexibly to ensure all demands of the company are met.
This role is based on a (to be agreed) hour per week contract which will be made up of regular support work and additional tasks outlined below.
This role requires a compassionate and patient individual with strong leadership skills and a passion for helping others. The core of this role revolves around supporting management in person centred aspects of both the staff and service users welfare to ensure both staff and service users feel supported as well as assisting management in ensuring the company is compliant and in line with current guidelines and legislation. The role requires you to take a flexible approach to carry out any duties asked of you within the scope of your role by your line manager
In addition to the duties of a support worker, your role and responsibilities as a senior support worker are as follows.
- Supervision and Leadership:
- Supervise and mentor support workers, ensuring that high standards of support are maintained. This includes a low level aspect of training, shadow shifts and support around emotional wellbeing.
- Involvement in the running of creative workshops and supporting the workshop coordinator within the scope of their role.
- Acting as Management in the absence of Management.
- Direct Support:
- Provide practical and emotional support to individuals, helping them with daily activities and promoting their independence (please see appendix 1).
- Stepping in to help cover sickness and annual leave.
- Coordination:
- Organising any changes in shifts, and promoting community involvement to enhance the quality of life for those they support.
- Be actively involved in more complex and unique aspects of support such as arranging and supporting service users to attend appointments and meetings with other professionals.
- Communicate with SU’s and/or their families as well as other professionals via your work email or on my designated work mobile
- Sending out SU’s Rotas on a Fri/Sat
- Uploading sickness and absence to HR
- Health and Safety:
- Ensuring the physical and mental well-being of individuals by monitoring their health and taking appropriate actions when necessary.
- Completing risk assessments
- Ensuring all risk assessments are up to date and current
- Creating custom risk assessments where needed
- Attending and documenting SU reviews
- Administrative Duties:
- Involvement in administrative tasks such as maintaining records, developing care plans, and liaising with other healthcare professionals.
- Filing correctly and in a timely manner and in line with GDPR and our policies and procedures
- Completing audits and delegating audit actions to ensure the company is compliant.
- Coordinating service user and staff feedback forms
- Duplicating mileage spreadsheets for new staff and supporting them in inputting their mileage where needed
- Ensuring there are always sufficient amounts of mileage, finance and timesheets available in the office
- Completing assessment and reviews for service users in the absence of the managing director and/or deputy manager
6. Staff and Service User Welfare
- Managing staff and service user birthdays and purchasing a small gift for both staff and service users on behalf of Phoenix Therapeutic Support UK (a business card will be allocated to you)
- Organising welfare days for staff
Appendix 1
As a support worker you will promote and look after the well-being of people in their daily lives. You will support vulnerable individuals with different physical disabilities and mental health needs to live their lives more independently and support them to reach their potential by providing both physical and emotional support.
Your role will vary from day to day which is a reflection of the fluent aspirations, wishes and needs of the people you support.
The support you offer may include helping people to carry out their daily tasks to take care of themselves, teaching new skills, providing emotional support, and ensuring they are living a fulfilled life.
The role is primarily focused on enabling and supporting people to live their lives as independently as they can.
Within Phoenix Therapeutic Support we support people with a diverse range of needs, including learning disabilities, autism, physical disabilities and mental health illness.
As a support worker, you may find yourself working in a number of settings including in people’s homes and within their local communities.
As a support worker your responsibilities include:
- Providing physical support which may include helping with household tasks.
- Providing emotional support for an individual and their families.
- Supporting and helping with health care needs, including attending routine checks.
- Encouraging and supporting the development of personal skills through hobbies and interests.
- Teaching life skills, such as shopping, using public transport and paying for bills.
- Working with other healthcare professionals to ensure that all care needs meet the highest possible standards.
Support workers also help the people they support to form meaningful connections. This could be by aiding them in their hobbies and interests, connecting them with suitable community groups, enabling them to attend college or encouraging them to develop a new life skill such as cooking or money management. To achieve this, understanding how the person communicates and their likes and dislikes is an an important part of the job.
As a support worker you must have certain skills for example:
- An interest in helping other people, regardless of their condition.
- The ability to communicate clearly and sensitively when talking to people and their families.
- Good listening skills.
- Great problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt and act accordingly to situations.
- Good time management skills to be able to support the needs of multiple people.
- The ability to keep up with changing standards and codes of conduct in the social care sector.
- The ability to work both alone and as part of a team.
- A high level of patience and emotional resilience.
- Being empathetic towards everyone.
- The ability to make good, positive relationships with people and their families.
- The ability to communicate with other healthcare professionals.
- Great verbal and written communication skills.
- A non-judgemental attitude regardless of a person’s needs.
- The ability to remain calm under pressure and when dealing with challenging situations.
Experience in the health and social care sector is helpful but not required. Phoenix Therapeutic Support offers full training in your role.
