This is far more than a traditional management role. You'll work closely with our GP Partners to lead a fantastic multidisciplinary team, influence strategic decisions, and play a key role within the North Halifax Primary Care Network (PCN). Caritas Group Practice is a well-established, high-performing GP training practice caring for approximately 8,000 patients across three practice sites in Halifax.

The Role
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced manager who enjoys both strategic leadership and operational management.
Working alongside the GP Partners, you'll provide day-to-day leadership of the practice while helping to develop and deliver our long-term vision.
The Partners remain responsible for clinical leadership, while you'll lead the operational management of the practice and work collaboratively to drive innovation, efficiency and continuous improvement.
As part of this role, you'll also represent the practice as a Board Member within the North Halifax Primary Care Network, contributing to the wider development of primary care services across the locality.
Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Strategy
- Lead the operational and strategic development of the practice
- Drive service improvement and change management initiatives
- Develop business plans and support future growth opportunities
- Foster a positive, inclusive and high-performing team culture
- Promote staff wellbeing, engagement and continuous development
- Represent the practice within the North Halifax PCN
Operational Management
- Ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the practice
- Lead and support the Practice Operations Manager and Administration Lead
- Ensure patients receive safe, responsive and high-quality care
- Oversee premises management and facilities
- Maintain effective communication across the whole practice team
Workforce & HR
- Lead recruitment, performance management and staff development
- Support managers in achieving operational objectives
- Encourage a positive workplace culture where people feel valued and supported
Finance & Business
Working alongside the Partner responsible for finance, you will:
- Monitor budgets and expenditure
- Help maximise practice income
- Support financial planning and sustainability
- Ensure value for money across all areas of the organisation
Governance & Quality
- Ensure compliance with CQC standards and NHS regulations
- Lead quality improvement initiatives
- Monitor performance and implement service improvements
- Support clinical governance and risk management
- Organise and contribute to practice meetings, audits and staff training
About You
We're looking for someone who is:
- An experienced leader with strong people management skills
- Passionate about delivering excellent patient services
- Calm, organised and able to prioritise effectively
- Commercially aware with strong business acumen
- Confident managing change and driving improvement
- A collaborative leader who motivates and inspires others
- Practical, approachable and solutions-focused
Above all, we're looking for someone with plenty of common sense, a positive attitude and the ability to build strong relationships across the whole practice.
Essential Criteria
- Significant experience within NHS Primary Care or General Practice
- Excellent leadership and people management skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience managing operational services
- Financial management experience, including budgeting and planning
- Ability to lead organisational change
Desirable
- Degree in Healthcare, Business or a related subject
- Leadership or Management qualification
- Experience working with Primary Care Networks
- Experience preparing for and maintaining CQC compliance
