Personal Assistant – Family Home
Location: Hyde
Pay: £12.71 per hour
Hours: Part-time, approximately 16–20 hours per week

About the Role
I am looking for a reliable, practical and trustworthy Personal Assistant to support me at home and help keep everyday family life running smoothly.
I live in Hyde with my two teenage children. I have a rare disease that affects me in various ways and means there are parts of everyday life that I need support with. What I need can vary from day to day, so I need somebody who is adaptable and comfortable with a varied role.
My children have additional needs, including SEN and anxiety, and one is currently home educated. You will need to be comfortable around teenagers with additional needs and understand that their needs can sometimes affect how things happen within the home. You won't be taking on a parenting role, but you do need to be patient, understanding and able to respect their individual needs and boundaries.
This isn't a formal care setting. It is our family home and I want it to continue feeling that way when a PA is here. The atmosphere is relaxed and home-from-home, but the role still requires professionalism, reliability, confidentiality and respect.
What the Role Involves
The role is varied and no two days will necessarily look exactly the same.
Duties may include:
- General housework and cleaning
- Tidying and helping keep the home organised
- Laundry and other everyday household jobs
- Preparing and cooking homemade family meals
- Shopping and running errands
- Collecting prescriptions
- Helping with paperwork and household organisation
- Supporting me with practical day-to-day tasks
- Helping me keep on top of appointments, jobs and things that need doing
- Working comfortably around my children and being mindful of their SEN and anxiety
- Occasionally accompanying us out of the home
- Working alongside or around another PA where required
- Covering additional hours during holidays or sickness where mutually agreed
You need to be someone who can use their initiative. I don't want to have to give instructions for every individual job. There will be times when I give you specific things that need doing, but I also need somebody who can look around, see what needs attention and get on with it.
Cooking
Being able to cook is an important part of the role.
I am looking for somebody who can prepare proper homemade family meals rather than relying on ready meals. You don't need to be an amazing cook, but you should be comfortable preparing a range of everyday meals from fresh ingredients.
Our Home
We have a small dog and three guinea pigs, so you must be comfortable working around animals.
We also have ponies locally. Occasionally we may visit them and you may come with us if you are comfortable doing so. Experience with horses isn't required.
I want somebody who can feel comfortable in our home. You can have a brew, talk to us and be yourself. At the same time, I need somebody who understands the difference between being comfortable in somebody's home and forgetting that they are there in a professional role.
Our home and belongings should be treated with the same respect you would expect somebody to show in your own home.

I am looking for somebody who genuinely wants this type of role and can become a consistent and reliable part of the support around our household.

Confidentiality is extremely important.
Working within our home means you may naturally see or hear private information relating to me, my children, our health, education, appointments, routines and family life.
Anything you become aware of through your employment must remain confidential.
Information about me, my children, our home or our circumstances must not be discussed with friends, family members, people in the local community or on social media.
The same applies after your employment ends.
Trust, discretion and appropriate professional boundaries are a fundamental part of this role.
Experience
Previous experience isn't essential if you are the right person and have the right attitude.
Experience in any of the following would be useful:
- Personal Assistant or care work
- Family or household support
- Supporting children or teenagers with SEN
- Supporting people experiencing anxiety
- Cleaning, cooking or household management
- Working within somebody's private home
- Working with animals
An Enhanced DBS check is preferred.
A driving licence is preferred, as some errands and activities take place away from the home.
Hours
The role is approximately 16–20 hours per week.
There may occasionally be opportunities for additional hours, particularly to cover holidays, sickness or periods when I need additional support. Any additional hours would be discussed and agreed beforehand.
The exact working pattern can be discussed with the successful applicant.
Pay & Employment
Pay is £12.71 per hour.
The position is temporary initially, with the possibility of becoming permanent depending on my ongoing support needs and whether the arrangement works well for both sides.
