Full job description

Waddington and Son Solicitors are seeking an experienced and motivated Law Costs Draftsperson to join our growing and well-established legal practice. This is an excellent opportunity for a knowledgeable professional with strong legal aid billing experience to become part of a supportive and expanding team.

We are proud to have our own dedicated in-house billing team and are looking for an individual who can work confidently across a varied caseload, with particular emphasis on Family Legal Aid, Criminal Legal Aid, and Court of Protection matters.

Key Responsibilities

Preparing and drafting legal aid bills for assessment
Managing Family Legal Aid billing matters, including High Cost Case Plans
Handling all aspects of Criminal Legal Aid billing
Preparing Court of Protection bills for submission to the courts for assessment
Working closely with fee earners and the internal billing team to ensure accurate and timely submissions
Using the CCMS system efficiently and effectively
Assisting with compliance and ensuring bills are prepared in line with Legal Aid Agency requirements
Supporting the continued growth of the Court of Protection department

Essential Requirements

Previous experience as a Law Costs Draftsperson or Legal Costs professional
Strong knowledge of Family and Criminal Legal Aid billing procedures
Proven experience using CCMS
Experience dealing with High Cost Case Plans
Knowledge of Court of Protection billing and assessment procedures
Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
Ability to work independently and manage workloads effectively

Desirable Skills

Experience working within a busy solicitors’ practice
Strong communication and team-working abilities
Up-to-date knowledge of Legal Aid Agency guidance and procedures

Pay: £25,000.00-£40,000.00 per year

Experience:

Legal Costing: 1 year (required)

Work Location: Hybrid remote in Burnley BB11 1HH
