To work as part of a small specialist team (Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU)) to investigate allegations of all types of police corruption involving Surrey Police employees or members of the public who are suspected of attempting to corrupt serving employees.
The Anti-Corruption Unit deal with corruption and serious misconduct investigations while in the covert / proactive phase. Once any overt intervention is required, most cases will be passed to the Professional Standards Investigation Team. You will be expected to manage the handover process of your investigations and to manage any sensitive disclosure matters.
- You will utilise appropriate information sources for gathering relevant intelligence.
- You will make the best use of technology to support the identification of abuse of position or corruption and be trained to use specialist software.
- You will research and develop intelligence packages as directed, and provide accurate, corroborated information.
- You will conduct Corruption and Misconduct Investigations and enquiries within the Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU).
- You will conduct surveillance and deploy covert tactics to support investigations and intelligence development.
- You will conduct liaison and form close working arrangements with internal and external partners to support the department objectives.
- You will perform ethical interventions with employees of Surrey Police to appropriately assess and resolve outstanding integrity concerns.
- You will prioritise enquiries to ensure the efficient use of resources.
- You will use national guidance and legislation to lawfully apply for and obtain information in support of on-going investigations.
- You will debrief law enforcement employees and or members of the public wishing to provide information regarding corruption or wrongdoing.
It is essential that any applicant:
- Possesses a sound knowledge of criminal investigation techniques and has demonstrated the ability to use them.
- Has recent operational experience of proactive intelligence investigations.
- Has a sound knowledge of National and Force policies and guidelines.
- Is able to analyse problems, identify risks and make sound decisions with tact, diplomacy and sensitivity.
- Is able to operate and interrogate Niche and other computer systems to a good standard.
- Is able to cope with pressure, manage time effectively and able to cope with several issues at once.
- Is able to produce clear, concise and logical reports, working to strict deadlines.
- Is able to demonstrate excellent inter-personal skills and to show patience and act confidently and professionally when under pressure.
- Has knowledge of the working practices of other departments and support agencies.
- Be prepared to be security vetted and to undertake any appropriate training or self-development necessary to both gain and improve the level of expertise required for the post.
- Be prepared to travel extensively throughout the force area and beyond.
- It is desirable that the post holder has experience of dealing with Professional Standards issues.
- Accreditations can be achieved following posting. The post holder will attend and pass the Bronze Counter Corruption Course. The post holder may be required to be Section 19 RIPA accredited. The post holder may be required to obtain surveillance accreditations such as static observations, surveillance photography and logbook.
