Salary variable dependent on age, experience and hours required

Freelance Management Accounts and Payroll Consultant - Self Employed role with flexible working days & hours between 8.55am - 5.30pm Monday-Friday

This is a flexible self employed/freelance position requiring an estimated two working days per month, typically around the month-end for reporting and mid-month for payroll cycle.

The purpose of this role is to prepare monthly management accounts and the processing of monthly payroll, ensuring all financial information is accurate, up to date and delivered in a timely manner.

Responsibilities include preparing management reports, maintaining financial records, processing payroll, supporting budgeting and cash flow management, and providing financial insight to support business decision-making.

We are seeking a reliable, experienced and self-sufficient freelance professional who can work independently, communicate effectively with stakeholders, and deliver a high standard of financial reporting and payroll administration. A proactive approach and commitment to ongoing professional development are essential.

Proven experience in preparing management accounts (Sage 50) and processing payroll (Sage)

Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (Sage 50 Accounts & Payroll)

Key Responsibilities

Prepare and process monthly payroll for approximately 20 employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with all statutory requirements.
Maintain payroll records and implement payroll amendments, including salary changes, employee details and benefits adjustments.
Prepare and submit monthly pension contributions and associated documentation.
Produce and distribute annual payroll documentation, including P60s and other statutory reports as required.
Calculate and process director dividend allocations in accordance with company requirements.
Post and reconcile monthly payroll journals within Sage 50.
Prepare monthly management accounts using Sage 50 and Microsoft Excel, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets and key performance indicators.
Review and reconcile key balance sheet accounts, ensuring all transactions are accurately recorded and accounted for.
Complete month-end procedures, including accruals, prepayments and journal adjustments where required.
Analyse financial performance against budgets, forecasts and prior periods, highlighting variances and trends.
Prepare management reports and provide financial insights to support business decision-making.
Liaise closely with department managers and key stakeholders across the business to identify opportunities for improved financial performance, efficiency and profitability.
Monitor cash flow and provide regular reporting on the financial position of the business.
Support the annual budgeting and forecasting process as required.
Assist with year-end accounting procedures and liaise with the company's external accountants, providing information and documentation as requested.
Ensure financial records are maintained accurately, efficiently and in accordance with relevant accounting standards and best practices.
Identify and implement improvements to financial reporting processes, controls and business efficiencies.
Provide ad hoc financial, accounting and administrative support as required to support the efficient operation of the business.

Required Skills:

1 year+ MS Office Experience– Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is essential
1 year+ Sage 50 Experience
1 year+ Sage Payroll Experience
Previous experience producing management accounts for SMEs

Advantageous/Desired Skills:

Credit control experience
Invoice Dispute handling
