Full job description

Job Summary

The Logistics Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating and managing the Company’s logistics and transport operations to ensure the efficient movement of goods throughout the UK and internationally. The role oversees transport planning, logistics coordination, customer service, and operational performance while ensuring goods are delivered safely, efficiently and on time. The Logistics Manager also provides leadership, training and supervision to operational staff and supports the continued growth of the business.

Responsibilities

· Plan, organise and oversee the Company’s day-to-day logistics and transport operations.
Manage and supervise the Transport Coordinator and Logistics Coordinator to ensure the efficient scheduling and delivery of logistics services.
Coordinate inbound and outbound freight movements by road, air and sea.
Develop transport schedules and delivery plans to ensure customer deadlines are achieved.
Liaise with the Warehouse Manager and warehouse team to ensure orders are accurately processed, prepared and dispatched.
Monitor logistics operations and identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, reduce costs and enhance service delivery.
Build and maintain effective working relationships with customers, suppliers, freight partners and delivery networks.
Handle customer enquiries, resolve logistics and delivery issues, and provide timely updates regarding shipments and deliveries.
Ensure a consistently high standard of customer service by responding promptly to customer requirements and implementing effective solutions.
Monitor transport activities and ensure compliance with company procedures, transport legislation, health and safety requirements and other relevant regulations.
Prepare operational reports, analyse logistics performance and provide recommendations to senior management.
Coordinate with domestic and international logistics partners to facilitate the efficient movement of goods.
Provide training, guidance and ongoing support to Operations Executives, ensuring they have the necessary knowledge, skills and understanding of company procedures to perform their duties effectively.
Supervise the day-to-day work of Operations Executives, allocate tasks, monitor performance and provide regular feedback to ensure operational targets and customer service standards are consistently achieved.
Support recruitment, induction and the ongoing development of operational staff where required.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational performance and customer satisfaction.
Undertake any other duties appropriate to the role as reasonably requested by the Managing Director.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree (RQF Level 6 or above) in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Management, Transport Management or a related discipline; or
An equivalent professional qualification together with relevant industry experience.

Preferred Experience

Preferably at least one year’s experience in a logistics, transport, supply chain or freight forwarding environment.
Experience in coordinating logistics operations, transport planning and distribution activities is desirable.
Previous experience supervising or leading operational staff would be advantageous.
Experience in dealing directly with customers and resolving operational issues.
Experience in coordinating domestic and international shipments and managing delivery schedules is preferred.
