Job Purpose
The Pharmacy Manager is responsible for the professional leadership, safe and effective operation, and commercial performance of the pharmacy. The postholder will ensure the delivery of exceptional patient care through the provision of NHS and private pharmacy services, whilst maintaining compliance with all General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), NHS, MHRA, and legal requirements.
The Pharmacy Manager will lead, develop, and motivate the pharmacy team to provide outstanding pharmaceutical care, achieve service and business objectives, and continuously improve the quality and range of services offered.
Key ResponsibilitiesProfessional Leadership
- Act as the Responsible Pharmacist in accordance with legal requirements.
- Ensure the safe and effective running of the pharmacy at all times.
- Lead by example, maintaining the highest professional and ethical standards.
- Promote a culture of patient safety, clinical excellence, and continuous improvement.
- Supervise, coach, and develop the pharmacy team.
- Conduct staff appraisals, performance reviews, and development planning.
- Ensure all staff work within their competence and training.
Clinical Responsibilities
Provide expert pharmaceutical care, including:
- Clinical checking and authorisation of prescriptions.
- Providing expert medicines advice to patients and healthcare professionals.
- Supporting medicines optimisation.
- Resolving prescribing queries.
- Identifying and managing medicine-related risks.
- Supporting antimicrobial stewardship.
- Promoting evidence-based prescribing and self-care.
NHS Pharmacy Services
Lead and deliver all commissioned NHS pharmacy services, including:
- NHS Pharmacy First Service.
- NHS Blood Pressure Check Service.
- Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring.
- New Medicine Service (NMS).
- NHS Contraception Service.
- Smoking Cessation Service.
- Seasonal Flu Vaccination Programme.
- COVID-19 Vaccination Programme (where commissioned).
- Community Pharmacist Consultation Service (where commissioned).
- Healthy Living Pharmacy initiatives.
- Emergency supply of medicines.
- Public health campaigns.
- Any future NHS commissioned services.
Responsibilities include:
- Assessing patient eligibility.
- Clinical consultations.
- Diagnosis and treatment within service specifications.
- Referral to other healthcare professionals where appropriate.
- Accurate clinical record keeping.

Private Clinical Services
Lead and provide a comprehensive range of private healthcare services, including:
- Travel Health consultations.
- Travel Vaccinations.
- Malaria prevention advice and medication.
- Weight Management Services.
- Independent prescribing consultations (where qualified).
- Ear Wax Removal using microsuction and/or irrigation (ear syringing), where appropriately trained.
- Vitamin B12 injections.
- Vitamin D injections (where offered).
- Private Flu Vaccinations.
- Private COVID vaccinations (where available).
- Occupational vaccinations.
- Chickenpox vaccination.
- MMR vaccination.
- HPV vaccination.
- Shingles vaccination.
- Meningitis vaccinations.

- Allergy consultations.

Vaccination Responsibilities
Where appropriately trained and accredited:
- Conduct clinical assessments.
- Obtain informed consent.
- Administer vaccinations safely.
- Manage vaccine stock.
- Maintain cold chain requirements.
- Complete all clinical documentation.
- Report adverse reactions.
- Maintain resuscitation readiness.
- Ensure compliance with national vaccination guidance.
Weight Management Services
- Conduct patient consultations.
- Assess eligibility for treatment.
- Prescribe medicines where appropriately qualified.
- Monitor treatment outcomes.
- Provide lifestyle and nutritional advice.
- Ensure ongoing clinical follow-up.
- Maintain accurate records.
Ear Wax Removal Services
Where appropriately trained and competent:
- Assess patient suitability.
- Perform ear wax removal using approved techniques, including microsuction and/or irrigation.
- Identify contraindications.
- Recognise when referral is required.
- Maintain equipment and infection control standards.
- Document consultations and outcomes.
Vitamin B12 Injection Service
Where appropriately trained and legally authorised:
- Assess patient suitability.
- Obtain informed consent.
- Administer Vitamin B12 injections safely.
- Monitor for adverse reactions.
- Maintain accurate patient records.
- Ensure appropriate storage and handling of medicines.
Operational Management
- Manage the daily operation of the pharmacy.
- Ensure adequate staffing levels.
- Manage rotas and workforce planning.
- Oversee stock purchasing and inventory control.
- Monitor controlled drugs.
- Minimise stock losses and waste.
- Ensure efficient prescription workflow.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and compliant pharmacy environment.

Person SpecificationEssential
- Registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
- Valid GPhC registration with no restrictions affecting practice.

Pay: £50,000.00-£60,000.00 per year
