Full job description

Post Title: Kitchen Assistant

Direct reporting to: Day Service Manager and MMI Chef

Main Purpose of Post

To support the MMI Chef in the preparation and service of healthy, nutritious meals for service users attending the Daybreak provision. The role supports the broader goals of the charity by promoting a person-centred, safe, and welcoming environment for individuals living with dementia.

Accountabilities / Responsibilities

Maintain a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for guests, volunteers, and staff.
Support the chef in meal planning, preparation, cooking, and service.
Carry out kitchen porter duties, including pot washing and general cleaning.
Uphold hygiene and safety standards in accordance with policies and procedures.
Properly store food at appropriate temperatures.
Clean the kitchen and preparation areas after each meal and at the end of each shift.
Rotate and manage stock as per guidelines.
Cover shifts due to staff sickness or holidays.
Be a positive role model to volunteers and staff.
Stock take.
Preparing and serving breakfasts.
Cleaning down of the kitchen each evening.
Serving afternoon tea and collecting all mugs and plates ready for washing.

Health & Safety

Report any Hazards, Incidents or Accidents immediately to the appropriate staff member
Raise any Safeguarding concerns promptly with your team leader

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Qualifications

Essential- basic food Hygiene certificate

Essential- Willingness to undertake relevant training

Desirable- level 2 or above in food safety or catering

Experience

Essential- Previous kitchen or catering experience

Desirable- Experience working with people with dementia

Knowledge & Skills

Essential- Understanding of hygiene and food safety

Essential- Ability to follow instructions and procedures

Essential- Good time management and organisational skills

Desirable- Understanding of nutritional needs for older adults

Personal Qualities

Essential- Reliable and Punctual

Essential- Friendly and Approachable

Essential- flexible and supportive approach

Desirable- Calm and Empathetic

Other Requirements

Essential- Willing to cover absences as needed

Essential- Commitment to confidentiality and professional conduct
