Trainee Leakage Technician
Help protect water networks and communities across the North West.
Purpose and Scope of the Role
Tetra Tech is seeking Trainee Leakage Engineers to join our Water Operations team in North West England. This permanent, full-time role is based across Greater Manchester and supports the detection, assessment and reduction of leakage on live water networks. You will work closely with team leaders, clients and contractors, carrying out field-based inspections, data capture, reporting and practical leak location activities. Full training and one-to-one mentorship will be provided, making this an excellent entry point into the water industry.
Your Impact in this Position
In the short term, you will build core field skills and contribute to day-to-day leakage reduction activity. In the medium term, you will develop technical confidence in network tracing, noise logging, step testing and data-led decision-making. Longer term, this role offers the opportunity to progress within a specialist team, support more complex projects and develop towards mentoring others. You will be part of work that helps clients meet regulatory targets and improves service for local communities.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience
A full UK driving licence is essential. Previous experience in leakage, utilities or a similar field-based role is useful but not required. You should be comfortable working in all weather, including occasional evenings, weekends and overtime. The role may involve heavy lifting, confined spaces and highways work. Mandatory drugs and alcohol testing and a DBS check will apply.
Work Pattern and Location
Monday to Friday, 07:00 to 15:30, with overtime as required. This is a field-based role across Greater Manchester, with a company van provided. Flexible working is limited due to operational requirements.
