Full job description

Job Summary
We are seeking a friendly and efficient Café Assistant to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for delivering excellent customer service, preparing and serving food and beverages, and maintaining a clean and welcoming environment. This role offers an opportunity to develop skills within the hospitality sector while ensuring our customers have a positive experience.

Duties

Prepare and serve a variety of hot and cold beverages, including coffee, tea, and specialised drinks, adhering to quality standards.
Assist with food preparation tasks such as assembling sandwiches, salads, and other light snacks. (Light cooking included)
Serve customers at the counter or via table service, ensuring prompt and courteous interaction.
Maintain cleanliness of the café area, including clearing tables, washing dishes, and sanitising surfaces in line with food safety regulations.
Manage stock levels, restocking supplies as needed to ensure smooth operation throughout shifts.
Handle cash transactions accurately using the point-of-sale system and provide correct change.
Follow health and safety procedures diligently to ensure food safety standards are met at all times.
Support team members during busy periods by assisting with additional tasks as required.

Requirements

Previous experience as a barista or in food serving is desirable but not essential; training will be provided.
Knowledge of food safety standards is essential to maintain hygiene and compliance.
Basic maths skills for handling cash transactions accurately.
Strong organisational skills with good time management to prioritise tasks efficiently during busy periods.
Excellent communication skills with a friendly attitude towards customers and colleagues.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
Flexibility to work additional hours to cover holidays etc.

Pay Rate: £13.00 per hour

Working Hours: 13 paid hours per week

Ideal Working Days/Times: Tuesdays (9.30 am to 4.00 pm), Thursdays (10am to 2.30 pm) and alternate Saturdays 9.30 am to 4.00 pm

Break: 30 mins daily unpaid break

Holiday Entitlement: 28 days a year, Bank Holidays inclusive (pro rata).
