Summary
To provide a warm, welcoming, and efficient front-of-house service for a primary school. As the first point of contact, the receptionist plays a key role in creating a positive environment for pupils, parents, staff, and visitors, while supporting the day-to-day administrative and operational needs of the school, including stock and resource management.
Annual wage Pro-Rata of £13,312 a year
Please note that your initial hourly rate will be £8.00 per hour. As this is a term time only position, you will receive a pro-rata amount of the advertised annual salary.

Hours: 28 per hours per week over 4 days plus 4 hours paid ‘off the job’ training time (with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break) term time only.32 paid hours a week

What you’ll do at work: Key duties and responsibilities:
Front Desk & Parent Engagement
- Greet parents, carers, pupils, and visitors in a friendly, approachable, and professional manner
- Create a welcoming and child-friendly reception environment
- Answer telephone calls, take accurate messages, and direct enquiries appropriately
- Respond to general enquiries (face-to-face, phone, and email) in a timely manner
- Build positive relationships with parents and carers
Administrative Support
- Provide administrative assistance to the Office & Attendance Manager and school staff
- Maintain accurate pupil records, including admissions and contact details
- Support the monitoring of daily attendance, including late arrivals and absences and following-up absences
- Assist with school communications such as letters, and messaging systems
- Handle incoming/outgoing post and deliveries
- Support organisation of school events (e.g., parents’ evenings, trips, assemblies)
Stock Control & Ordering
- Monitor levels of office supplies and school essentials (e.g., stationery, first aid supplies, forms)
- Order stock in line with school procedures and budgets
- Receive, check, and safely store deliveries
- Keep stock rooms and storage areas tidy, organised, and accessible
- Maintain accurate stock records and ensure regular checks are completed
- Report low stock levels or issues to the School Business Manager
- Ensure resources are distributed appropriately to staff when required
Safeguarding & Security
- Follow all school safeguarding and child protection procedures
- Monitor access to the school, ensuring all visitors sign in and wear identification
- Maintain accurate visitor records in line with safeguarding policies
- Report any concerns appropriately following safeguarding guidelines
- Act as the nominated fire evacuation roll call representative, providing assistance/escalation for emergencies or security incidents
Pupil Support
- Provide a caring and supportive first point of contact for young children
- Assist pupils who are unwell, upset, or require reassurance
- Manage early pick-ups and end-of-day arrangements in line with school procedures
Communication
- Act as a key communication link between parents, teachers, and senior staff
- Ensure messages are passed on clearly, promptly, and accurately
- Maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive pupil or family information
General Duties
- Use standard office systems and school management software (Arbor)
- Operate office equipment such as photocopiers and printers
- Maintain filing systems (electronic and paper-based)
- Ensure the reception area is tidy, safe, and welcoming for children
- Undertake other duties as reasonably required
