Building Site Foreman - Job Purpose
Job Purpose:
As the Building Site Foreman, you will be a highly skilled and experienced professional responsible for overseeing day-to-day tasks on construction sites across the region.

The ideal candidate will be a hands-on construction professional with substantial trade and site experience, capable of leading from the front while remaining actively involved in site activities. You will ensure that tasks are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality and safety. Alongside managing personnel, coordinating resources, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations, you will be comfortable working with the tools when required and taking an active role in developing less experienced team members. You will be expected to coach, mentor, and support junior operatives, helping them build skills, confidence, and safe working practices through practical on-site training and leadership by example.
The role of Building Site Foreman will require your supervisory experience on sites of varying scales, and on occasion will mean movement between site locations to oversee changing priorities as they happen in real time.
The Building Site Foreman is an important team member within Keenan Able and will be expected to represent and convey the Company’s mission, vision, values and ethics in a professional and positive manner at all times.
Reporting to: The Principal Director / Site Manager
Hours of Work: 37.5 hrs p/w covering Monday to Friday – however some flexibility is needed on occasions where deadlines need to be met.
Main ResponsibilitiesSite Supervision
Oversee specific on-site tasks, including directing workers, subcontractors, and suppliers. Ensure that work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to project specifications.
Team Management
Lead and motivate site operatives and labourers. Allocate tasks and monitor performance to ensure high standards of workmanship, productivity and safety are maintained.
Health & Safety
Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations and company policies. Conduct regular safety briefings, inspections and risk assessments. Address any unsafe practices or hazards immediately.
Quality Control
Monitor the quality of work and ensure it meets both client expectations and industry standards. Report any deviations from agreed specifications and work with the project team to resolve issues.
Resource Management
Manage materials, tools and equipment required for designated tasks. Ensure efficient use of resources to avoid delays and waste. Track inventory levels and place orders as needed. Be mindful of construction waste by minimising excess, reusing materials wherever possible, and supporting sustainable site practices in line with our CSR policy.
Progress Reporting
Keep the Site Manager updated on project progress, including any issues or delays that may affect timelines or budgets. Provide regular reports on completed and pending tasks.
Compliance
Ensure all tasks adhere to relevant local building codes, permits and regulations. Complete all necessary site documentation, including attendance records, safety inspections and daily logs.
Problem Solving
Proactively identify potential issues on-site and resolve them in a timely manner. Collaborate with the Site Manager to overcome challenges as they arise.
Training & Development
Support the development of apprentices, junior operatives and less experienced team members through structured mentoring, practical on-the-job training and regular coaching. Share technical knowledge and trade skills, fostering a positive learning environment while maintaining productivity, quality and safety standards.
Essential Experience & Attributes
· Proven hands-on construction experience in a relevant trade.
· Previous experience supervising site teams while remaining actively involved in site work.
· Experience mentoring, coaching or training apprentices, labourers or junior operatives.
· Ability to lead by example and develop others through practical, on-site instruction.
· Strong understanding of Health & Safety requirements and construction best practices.
· Excellent communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.
Be willing to keep your own accreditations and qualifications up to date and undertake any training and development deemed reasonable and necessary for business needs.
