At De Aston School, we are seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and highly organised Senior Support Officer to join our safeguarding team. This is a vital role at the heart of the school, supporting the protection and wellbeing of students and ensuring that safeguarding concerns are managed effectively, sensitively, and in a timely manner.

You will work alongside experienced pastoral and safeguarding professionals in a school that places student welfare at the centre of everything it does. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a culture of vigilance, care, and early intervention, helping to ensure that every student feels safe, supported, and ready to learn.

You’ll be joining a welcoming and committed team in a school that values staff wellbeing, professional development, and collaboration. At De Aston, safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility — and this role plays a crucial part in making that vision a reality.

Duties

In this important and rewarding role, you will:

Receive, record, and triage safeguarding concerns with accuracy and professionalism
Maintain detailed, confidential records using systems such as CPOMS
Support the investigation of safeguarding concerns, including gathering information and speaking with students
Liaise effectively with staff, parents/carers, and external agencies (e.g. CAMHS, social workers)
Assist in progressing safeguarding cases to ensure timely and appropriate outcomes
Monitor and analyse safeguarding data to identify patterns, trends, and areas for intervention
Support safe and well checks and the implementation of safety plans for vulnerable students
Provide administrative and organisational support to the safeguarding team, including meetings and documentation
Manage safeguarding systems, including setting up accounts, maintaining records, and ensuring compliance
Support students and families with wellbeing and mental health needs
Work collaboratively with pastoral and leadership teams to ensure a consistent safeguarding approach across the school

Skills

We are looking for someone who is:

Passionate about safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people
Calm, resilient, and able to manage sensitive and challenging situations with professionalism
Highly organised, with excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage a varied workload
A strong communicator who can engage effectively with students, families, and professionals
Experienced (or willing to develop experience) in safeguarding, child protection, or pastoral support
Confident in handling confidential information with discretion and integrity
Proactive, analytical, and able to identify patterns or concerns from data
A supportive team player who can also work independently when required
Committed to equality, inclusion, and ongoing professional development

Essential requirements:

GCSE English and Maths (Grade 4/C or above)
Strong ICT skills, including the ability to use databases such as CPOMS or similar systems
Experience of working with young people and/or families
Ability to maintain accurate, confidential records

Role details:

Hours: 13 hours per week (Thursday–Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm)
Weeks: 39 weeks + 5.6 weeks paid holiday
Salary: £9,023 (FTE: £30,024)
