The Vedanta is a beautiful, Grade II-listed Elizabethan estate nestled within 100 acres of woodlands, meadows, and lakes in Branston, Lincolnshire. We are a leading spiritual and wellness retreat. Our mission is to host unforgettably meaningful experiences. We are seeking an exceptional, values-driven General Manager to lead our day-to-day operations. This role requires a unique balance of commercial and hospitality management excellence and a deep personal alignment with our holistic ethos.
Role Overview
- Job Title: General Manager

- Position Type: Full-time, Permanent
- Salary: Competitive / Dependent on experience (aligned with regional senior hospitality benchmarks)
- Reporting To: Board of Trustees
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Leadership & Guest Experience
- Cultivate Sanctuary: Maintain and protect a calm, safe, and welcoming environment aligned with the spiritual and wellness values of the centre.
- Guest Journey: Oversee the complete end-to-end guest experience for wellness retreats, exclusive hires, and events, ensuring five-star feedback.
- Ethos Champion: Manage relationships with retreat leaders, corporate clients, and community visitors.
2. Operations & Estate Management
- Property Oversight: Supervise daily operations of the estate, including guest rooms, event spaces, and indoor spa facilities.
- Food & Beverage: Quality assure and line-manage the in-house kitchen team to ensure the flawless execution of our high-quality, seasonal, vegetarian menus.
- Grounds & Compliance: Quality assure and line-manage estate maintenance, ensuring full statutory compliance.
3. Team Leadership & Culture
- Line Management: Motivate and manage a dedicated, close-knit team across all areas, including Front of House, sales, estate, housekeeping, kitchen, and night staff.
- Rostering: Manage staffing rotas efficiently to balance high-occupancy with quieter days.
4. Commercial & Financial Acumen
- Financial Control: Manage the site budget, monitor P&L, oversee payroll, and drive cost-effective procurement.
- Business Growth: Work collaboratively to maximize occupancy and revenue streams.
Candidate Profile
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Hospitality Leadership: Minimum 2 years of experience as a General Manager (or 5 years as Operations Manager, or Senior Deputy GM) within a hotel, residential centre, or retreat.
- F&B Familiarity: Experience managing or overseeing food services, with a genuine interest in or understanding of vegetarian/wellness trends.
- Financial Literacy: Proven track record of managing operational budgets, executing payroll, and driving venue occupancy.
- Cultural Fit: Deep personal resonance with wellness/ spiritual/ mindfulness/ holistic practices. Able to bring a calm and grounded presence to the workplace along with a clear focus on high performance.
- Flexibility: Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, to support major guest arrivals and events.
