Full job description

Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Accounts Assistant to join our accounts team. Immediate start available. This role offers an opportunity to work on complex accounting functions within a dynamic and friendly organization. The accounts assistant will play a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and effective financial management through advanced accounting practices and software expertise. This role is office based only.

The ideal candidate will possess strong technical accounting skills, and experience with various accounting software platforms such as Xero and Dext, including Excel. If this sounds like what you are looking for, come and have a cup of tea and a biscuit and we can have a chat all about it..

Responsibilities

Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
Perform detailed account reconciliations such as general ledger reconciliation, balance sheet reconciliation, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.
Manage month-end and year-end closing processes with precision to ensure timely reporting.
Oversee cash management activities including forecasting and cash flow analysis.
Maintain accurate records of financial transactions using accounting software such as Xero, or other enterprise systems.
Support internal controls and assist in audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
Perform technical accounting functions including journal entries for complex transactions involving debits & credits and double-entry bookkeeping principles.
Assist in budgeting processes, variance analysis, and financial forecasting to support strategic planning initiatives.

Qualifications

Strong technical skills with proficiency in Excel spreadsheets and accounting software such as Xero and Dext, or similar platforms; experience with financial management tools is highly desirable.
Demonstrated expertise in account reconciliation (general ledger), account analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
Excellent understanding of cash management processes including accounts receivable/payable management.
Capable of working independently while managing multiple priorities effectively.
Effective communication skills for preparing comprehensive financial reports and collaborating across departments.
