Full job description

Job Summary
East Down Farmers are seeking a reliable and physically fit Yard Operative to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing materials, operating equipment, and maintaining a safe and organised yard environment. This role requires hands-on involvement in loading, unloading, and handling goods within a busy warehouse and farm supply setting. Experience with warehouse management systems and mechanical knowledge will be advantageous. The position offers an opportunity to develop skills in materials handling, shipping and receiving, and equipment operation. Applicants MUST have transport due to the rural location and be willing to work every other Saturday on a rota basis. Higher hourly rate for a candidate with their forklift license!

Responsibilities

Load and unload materials using appropriate equipment, including forklifts
Assist with warehouse organisation and management system updates
Handle materials carefully, ensuring proper storage and movement within the yard
Conduct routine inspections of equipment and report any mechanical issues
Support shipping and receiving activities by preparing goods for dispatch or receipt
Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the yard area to ensure safety standards are met
Assist with general maintenance tasks as required on-site
Follow all safety procedures to minimise risk during heavy lifting or material handling

Experience

Previous warehouse experience is preferred but not essential; training will be provided
Experience operating forklift trucks is highly desirable
Familiarity with warehouse management systems is a plus
Knowledge of materials handling techniques, including heavy lifting and manual loading/unloading
Mechanical knowledge or experience in construction environments is advantageous
Ability to work efficiently in a physically demanding environment
Demonstrated commitment to safety standards in previous roles
