Mechanical, Electrical & Multi‑Skilled Engineer

Location: Lockerbie
Contract: Full time, permanent
Shift pattern: Three‑shift pattern, Monday to Friday
Pay: Hourly paid

About the role

We are looking to appoint Mechanical, Electrical and Multi‑Skilled Engineers to join our engineering team at our Lockerbie multi‑site sawmill.

Reporting to the Shift Engineering Supervisors, you will play a key role in maintaining and improving the reliability of our operations. You will be responsible for carrying out planned preventative, reactive and breakdown maintenance across our multi‑million‑pound production assets, including saw lines, secondary processing plants, log sorting lines, chemical treatment facilities and kiln drying plants.

Key tasks and responsibilities

Carrying out repairs, overhauls in the workshops and on site
Completing planned preventative maintenance (PPM) in line with maintenance schedules
Fault‑finding and diagnosing mechanical and/or electrical issues to minimise downtime and production impact
Maintaining and repairing systems including motors, gearboxes, bearings, hydraulics, pneumatics and electrical control systems (role dependent)
Working safely at all times, complying with permit systems, method statements and dynamic risk assessments
Supporting high standards of housekeeping and cleanliness across engineering areas
Working closely with production and management teams to drive continuous improvement
Promoting a “One Team” culture and actively contributing to positive change across the site

Skills and experience

Recognised Mechanical or Electrical Engineering apprenticeship, or equivalent qualification
Ideally 3–5 years’ engineering experience within a manufacturing or industrial environment
Mechanical engineers: strong experience with mechanical systems, hydraulics and pneumatics
Electrical engineers: experience with motors, drives, control panels, fault‑finding and basic PLC awareness
Multi‑skilled engineers: a blend of strong mechanical skills with electrical fault‑finding capability
Ability to work effectively within a fast‑paced production environment
Basic computer skills, including maintenance system data entry
Flexible, proactive approach with a willingness to support business needs
Previous experience within the timber or process manufacturing industry would be advantageous

Remuneration and benefits

Competitive hourly rate of pay
Shift Allowance
33 days’ annual leave pro rata (including statutory holidays)
