Maintenance Assistant – Job Description

(Working alongside the Premises Manager)

Responsibilities:

Support the Premises Manager in maintaining the cleanliness, safety and organisation of the nursery premises.
Carry out routine maintenance tasks including legionella checks, health and safety checks, fire safety checks, and general site inspections.
Assist with minor repairs such as fixing broken items, changing lightbulbs, assembling furniture and completing day‑to‑day maintenance tasks as directed.
Ensure equipment, tools and supplies are stored safely and maintained in good working order.
Monitor the site for any maintenance issues and promptly report them to the Premises Manager.
Support with basic gardening, outdoor upkeep and general grounds maintenance.
Provide practical assistance to staff, contractors and visitors when required, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment.

Requirements:

Previous experience in maintenance or a similar practical role.
Basic knowledge of cleaning methods, maintenance techniques and use of relevant tools/equipment.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions from the Premises Manager.
Good time‑management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
Clear communication skills and a positive, cooperative approach to working as part of a team.
