Lady Lumley’s Academy are looking to appoint a HLTA for ROOSE (Ryedale Out Of School Education) to join our team in September 2026 on a permanent, part time basis.
Do you want to work for a Trust that is transforming educational outcomes for students in some of the most deprived areas in the North of England? If so, this could be the role for you.
Your new role
The role is permanent and will be 32 hours per week. Typical working hours are Monday to Friday 8.30am to 3.15pm with a 4pm finish on a Tuesday (CPD time).
Our ROOSE centre is quite unique, offering out of school education to KS3 and KS4 students in the Ryedale area, who have usually either been permanently excluded, or are at risk of suspension. Students initially attend for a 6-week placement, which may either allow a student to be reintegrated back into mainstream education, or may be extended. We’re a small centre with a maximum capacity of 13 students, and we typically work with students in small groups of 3-4 at a time.
As our new HLTA, you’ll join our Centre Manager, a Teaching Assistant and an Office Manager. You’ll be working with small groups of students planning and delivering sessions, as well as a focus on re-engagement in Maths, English and Science. This isn’t your typical HLTA role, and is a great opportunity to make a real difference to our students. You don’t necessarily need to have worked in an alternative education setting before, your transferable skills and experiences are what we’re looking for.
Please see the attached job description on our website for the essential criteria and more information on the role.
If you feel you have the necessary skills and experience required for this position, then we would very much like to hear from you.
About us
ROOSE is a shared educational provision between four Ryedale Secondary Schools (Lady Lumley’s Academy, Malton School, Norton College and Ryedale School) to support students who are out of education. ROOSE is now based on site at Lady Lumley’s with its own buildings and access. ROOSE serves a small cohort of students who are out of mainstream education or accessing blended education. Through bespoke education packages, ROOSE helps children back into full-time, mainstream education, equipping them with appropriate skills and qualifications to thrive. Ensuring students progress in Maths and English is vital to life chances and this provision is central to ROOSE’s curriculum. In addition, and through negotiation with Home Schools, ROOSE provides a curriculum menu, including Outdoor Education, Life Skills and Catering.
Lady Lumley’s is an 11-18, mixed comprehensive, community school serving the town of Pickering, surrounding villages, and warmly welcomes students from Scarborough to Rosedale. We strive to ‘Be our best’, working to improve the experience for all students, staff, and the community. Our broad and balanced curriculum is ambitious for all, and we place great value in academic qualifications alongside the arts and practical subjects.
Set in an idyllic location, we make the most of fantastic sporting facilities and run an immensely popular Duke of Edinburgh experience alongside over 30 Enrichment Clubs. Our students and staff are loyal to Lady Lumley’s and are committed to improving our learning journey, whilst celebrating success.
